No, they don't. They work for profoundly inflated rates due to the fact that they know once the government and insurance companies take their cuts, they will largely be left with feathers.

The fact is that insurance companies and the government make HUGE profits on health care. If neither were involved, rates would probably be low enough for most things to be paid for out of earnings like we pay for everything else.
If you don't believe me, look up some of the doctors who treat patients for cash only and check out their rates. Or better yet, ask your doctor next time how much some of the routine procedures would cost if you were to just pay for them yourself. The difference is pretty stunning.
