This should be disturbing to all Americans - assuming that you understand that a free press is a bedrock foundational element of a democracy.

Billionaires vs. the Press in the Era of Trump
A small group of superrich Americans — the president-elect among them — has laid the groundwork for an unprecedented legal assault on the media

By Emily Bazelon

In the last few years, Trump has been joined by at least two billionaires who are determined to exploit cracks in the wall of defense around the press... They have sued or funded suits to defend reputations or protect privacy. But an underlying aim appears to be to punish critics...or even destroy entire media outlets.

This mistrust has been growing for a long time, but it was stoked by Trump during the campaign. He called the reporters who covered him “scum” and whipped up yelling and booing crowds.

oh boo hoo for the press. if they would stop with the bull crap and do their jobs right, and actually inestigate things, instead of just print rumors and garbage, then perhaps they might get more respect.

I think what Trump wants is media similar to the media in Russia...Totally state controlled...Although I often hear Trump and his followers say that mainstream media is fake I've never seen even one of them back that statement up with a specific example.

I think that an assault on the press is disgraceful.

.

"Assault" doesn't come near enough to what's needed or deserved.

All presidents, with the exception of Nixon and Trump, have respected the press....even the negatives about them. And the press is investigating. That's why both of these presidents called them the enemy. Too close for comfort and the truth

That's a huge assumption with the right-wing C-Ders as already evident in the posts between mine and yours. (Well, not Natalie.)

Are you willing to do away with the 1st amendment in order for Trump to be presented in a better light?

So, if you think the press should investigate, you must hate people like Limbaugh, Hannity, and Jones, who just sprout insane rhetoric.

If you really paid attention to serious journalism, you'd be respecting all the real investigations done, ranging from specific people like David Cay Johnston, to newspapers like the Washington Post, with so much research. Of course, that's one reason Trump hates them so much: They point out all his misdeeds. They do in fact, get a great deal of respect - from educated, informed people.

Sounds like perhaps you'd be much happier in another country, one without a free press. Perhaps you'd like to try North Korea?

Wrong, President Obama regularly lashed out at conservative media outlets like Fox News during his presidency. He showed very little respect for conservative Americans.
