The Air Force's C32A, as the aircraft is known, is normally used by the Vice President. It is also used to transport the POTUS when the destination airport will not accommodate the B747 size aircraft. It is also used to fly the Secretary of State, and on a case by case basis, Members of Congress. It not to difficult to imagine that the senate leadership requested the aircraft. I highly doubt that the Air Force requested Trump's permission since it's really not in Trump's purview to micromanage Air Force transport schedules.
I'm glad that trump found it in himself to behave decently in this case, and not disapprove of the use of the plane. I'm sure he would know what horrible PR it would be for him to decline the use.
A part of me can't help but thing that if he really had anything to do with it, he would be tweeting it all over the place.
But at the end of the day, it is a government plane paid for by the people.
I highly doubt he was ever so gracious to lend out the plane, but rather he wasn't given a choice.
I doubt Kelly would've allowed it any other way. The plane is owned by the people, operates by the military, and this is standard usage for it.
So Trump treats McCain like crap while he's alive, refuses to honor him with the flag at half mast, tweets out insults and then go plays golf during the cathedral service, but we're supposed to say what a great guy Trump is because he lent the McCains an airplane Pence uses?
