Not disagreeing with this, as its not wrong. But, though this post is old, I thought I'd add some knowledge for future ppl who visit, as Fascism is an important term to undersant correctly, and its been bastardized into all sorts of things. To be clear, it is a bad thing, regardless.
Fascism, fundamentally, is the over-identification with a label, and with the categorization of others, and then not only seeing everything in terms of "us" and "them", but believing all who are not "us" must be subjugated, or exterminated. When functioning, jingoism, ethno state superiority, and the tools of totalitarianism are commonly used to maintain its power.
This tendency exists on the left, the right, and fully across the spectrum. It isn't a liberal thing, nor a conservative thing. We should ask ourselves... "did i just realize it is actually even a ME thing"?
What it generally is not, in principle, is an Egalitarian thing. Egalitarianism is almost by definition the antithesis of fascism.
Fascism isn't about color, religion, political ideological, or gender. But it can co-opt any group that over-identifies themselvse with any of them, because when Fascism takes hold, said group begins to believe it is superior and deserves all power, and anyone who does not identify with their categories is nothing... dehumanized to the point of being killable, enslaveable, worthless and demonized.

Its fine to be proud of who and what one is. Its awful to believe others can't and shouldn't do the same. We are ALL "US".
