The Kavanaugh candidacy is part of a wider attack on the US court system. The first step was Clarence Thomas not recusing himself from Citizens United after attending Koch political rallies. Subsequently, his wife was caught accepting over $100,000 a year from The Heritage Foundation, a Koch organization. They already have at least one bribable justice on the Supreme Court. They want to install a second. If they control the judiciary, they control the country. It's a concerted move to destroy democracy in the USA, and is by far the most serious challenge The Republic has faced since the Civil War.

The USA got along fine for over two centuries without extending First Amendment rights to corporations. The only reason it was worth bribing Thomas for the decision was so they could toss out campaign finance reform and take control of election expenditures. Republicans were asleep at the switch, and woke up to find themselves wholly owned subsidiaries of Wall Street. Any Republican who did not toe the line found themselves with a primary opponent controlled by corporate dictators.

Keep in mind that an unintended consequence of overturning Citizen's United could be the banning of any lobbying or political activity by any incorporated entity. Think Sierra Club, the ACLU, Brady Campaign against Gun Violence, etc.

All Citizens United did was make corporate election tampering legal.
Corporations have ALWAYS had the protections of the First Amendment. There has never been a time in our nation's history when they have been prohibited or excepted from this.
