I was a registered Republican from the late 1980's to the mid-1990's. But frequently, my ballot would have a mix of Republican and Democratic candidates--I recall most of the candidates I selected were closer to the 'middle-of-the-road'.
I went Unaffiliated about the same time I moved to Colorado. Voting habits remained the same.
Registered as a Democrat in 2000. Voting habits were still a mix up until 2008. At that point, it was as if the GOP started to lose its' collective mind, and it's only gotten worse since then.
I think I've only voted for one Republican candidate since 2008, and it was a local election in 2014, and the candidate wasn't batguano crazy (he was, in fact, a moderate of old that I liked). Aside from that.....I haven't selected any Republican candidates on my ballot since.
The Democratic Party is not without its flaws, but the GOP has gotten downright *vicious*.
Registered Republican. I used to be Independent, but if you're 100% honest with yourself you probably favor one team over the other and you don't need to agree with 100% of the platform to affiliate yourself with the party.
I've always voted for the issues and candidates so really independent, even though I've belonged to every different party at one time or another, just because! At the moment I'm a Republican but only so I can get emails telling me of relevant events in my area.
No matter which party you belong to you will still be inundated with begging letters and emails.

I see it as exactly the opposite. Search and destroy, the politics of personal destruction and personal smear have always been the hallmark of the Dems. Just look at what happened to Kavanaugh.
Why do you think so many Dems #WalkAway? Their eyes have been opened.
I'm not a fan of the two party system but I usually vote GOP. Locally, I lean to the center and vote equally Democrats and Republicans. In federal elections like the Senate and the Presidency, I usually vote Republican. However, I voted for Obama twice.
I'm a Dem. I vote for individuals--not parties. There are a number of Dems in Congress that I am not crazy about, and I was so angry at those women who pushed Franken out that I decided to switch to Independent. Since Florida is a closed primary state, I decided to remain in the party to vote in the primaries, but I really don't feel as comfortable being in the party as I did when Obama was in office.
Both parties have extremist wings that nobody likes--we should really have a third party for moderates, and we may end up with one in 2020. Moderate Republicans will have to either challenge Trump, or run as third party, and the 'Sanders' Dems may not compromise, which would turn off the moderates in the party.

Every so often, the rumor that John Hickenlooper and John Kasich are going to do this rears up its head. Were it to come to fruition, I'd certainly consider it.
