I know you aren't talking about the KKK. Senator Byrd was not a Republican.

And the Neo-Nazis in Charlottesville weren't Democrats.

It's just not being honest with anyone to pretend otherwise.

Democrats used to be very conservative, while Republicans were more liberal.

Democrats are now liberal and Republicans are conservative. And, we all know it, so why does this topic keep popping up?
I`ll try to answer that. Every now and then a racist Republican learns that Lincoln was a Republican and 160 years ago the Democrats started the KKK. They think these 2 facts are enough to exonerate today`s Republican party. Last summer when Trump learned that Lincoln was a Republican he was practically shouting it out from the rooftops and the MAGA people were thrilled because they too learned a tiny bit of history. You know what they say about a little bit of knowledge being a dangerous thing.

Tell me what about the democratic platform appeals to the KKK and Neo-Nazis? I'm sure they loved Obama,as he represent their values perfectly .

If the KKK are Republicans then BLM and Anti-fa members must be registered Republicans. We can pretend, that Charlottesville Neo-Nazis and KKK members at the "Unite the Right" rally were al secretly Hillary voters, and I'll pretend that Anti-fa's candidate for president was Donald Trump.
KKK can align with whomever they want. It’s their freedom: however, name one Republican who doesn’t denounce KKK.

On the flip side, the Democraps have celebrated and cherished KKK and never apologied.

Indeed.

And, I'm not sure what's scarier. That they're excited about it or that they didn't already know it.

Because, I learned this bit of info in middle school.

ok let play the game.

1. the KKK and other hate filled racist groups try to latch on to the right because minorities they hate most vote dem.
2. Republicans repudiate these groups constantly.
3. ANTIFA and other hate filled bigoted violent groups are solidly progressive but Dems do not at all repudiate them. The media even defends them.

so there you go. don't blame republicans for hate groups republicans repudiate. and don't attempt a moral equivalency argument when dems refuse to distance themselves from the violent organizations that are doing their bidding.

As if the Democrats aren't the bigger party of neo-Nazism and neo-KKK. What a laugh for identity politics Democrats trying to criticize and project identitarianism and ethnocentrism onto republicans.

In 1930s Nazi party and rhetoric, just substitute "white" for "Jewish" and "Aryan" for the superior "people of color" and you have the spitting image of today's Democrat party. And it's the democrats today acting more like the Klan, just that many of them are black and brown or foreigners.

The Democrats love and defend ethnocentrism and identitarianism when they're doing it, but act like it's a horrible thing that republicans supposedly have an extensive problem with.

Hitler was so keen on Progressive policy that he adopted it in Nazi Germany. All the top Progressives were Nazi supporters. Charles Lindbergh (the most high profile Progressive/White supremacist of them all) flew over to Germany as Hitler's guest and rode in Nazi parades with Hitler. Margaret Sanger, founder of Planned Parenthood, set it up as "The Negro Project" in Harlem, but rebranded it as overt racism went out of fashion. She also spoke about the need to keep the peopulation down at Klan rallies. For decades she continued to list as required reading "The Passing of the Great Race", by Madison Grant. This is the book that Hitler called "My Bible". On and on and on it goes. Fast forward to today and witness what happens when a Black man speaks out against their politics. They treat him like the inferior slave, they truly believe him to be. Anyone claiming to be a Progressive is worse than a Neo-Nazi or Klan member, in that those groups admit what and who they are, while the Progressives continue to lie about their true beliefs.
Agree the original Nazi party was not really right wing as an American would understand it. Nazis were big government progressives and moderates to socialists just to the right of communist. Sound just like today's Democrat party.

And the point that has been made ad nauseum is that the parties were switched way back then.

The thing is that democrats from back then are republicans today. Anyone who has taken political science 1 or even 2 in college knows that. But because it started in the liberal party, republicans love to throw that out there. In fact republicans used to cater to minorities but changed when they realized that they were losing the white vote. Not its not like that anymore because over time both groups have evolved and changed.

This has been debated ad infinitum.
Why Did the Democratic South Become Republican?

The so-called Southern Strategy was most commonly linked to Nixon--the same Nixon who did more to desegregate schools than any president in history.
https://www.nytimes.com/2003/01/08/o...s-schools.html
The same Nixon who tried to set up a meeting between IKE and MLK Jr. The same Nixon who welcomed Sammy Davis Jr. to his campaign after JFK had rejected Sammy due to his inter-racial marriage.

As someone posted in the thread on Democratic Party leadership, it is really time for Democrats to move on from so much emphasis on identity politics.

It's not working. The GOP now controls two thirds of turf, if you total up state legislative bodies, governorships, and federal elected bodies. The GOP now controls the SCOTUS too, with the prospect of a 6-3 conservative majority in sight. The same identity politics that worked for President Obama did not work for Hillary Clinton. As the GOP brings in more minorities, it will become even less effective in the future. What are we shooting for here? 75% GOP control?
