uhm Mississippi (the poorest state, and worst for education) has the highest black population percentage in the country

Additionally, here's Pew Research on the Politics of Food Stamp Recipients. It confirms The Maxwell Poll's and NPR's data. Pay particular attention to the usage rates by political party affiliation:

A lot do. For example...

And, clearly, a lot of Hispanics (highest obesity rate) live in the South due to the proximity to Mexico and Central America.
