I don't know if the Republican party is racists. BUT it does seem that the racists define themselves as Republican. Perhaps we should ask them why.
Maybe those racist democrats simply changed their rhetoric and their approach to controlling the people they once openly called inferiors. Maybe the new approach is You can't succeed unless someone helps you? Bottle them up into slums, get them dependent upon the system, convince them that they can't possible succeed without the help of the loving benefactor, the democrat party.
McCarthy and McGovern, from what I recall, barely mentioned race. Their main issues were economics, in particular both wanted a bigger welfare state, and the war in Vietnam.
They wanted black people to get access to the welfare state provisions that whites already had access to. FDR had already set up the welfare state--but blacks didn't have access to it. As the Democrats forced black access into the welfare state largess, then whites got upset about it.
For about the 5th time, the South did not become solidly red until 1994, 30 years after the 1964 Civil Rights act passed. So your 'fact' presumes that the racists waited 30 years to act upon their objection to CRA 64.
Southern whites Dixecrats who were of voting age in 1964 continued to vote as segregationists until they died. They simply refused to change their party registration to the Party of Lincoln as they died out over the 70s, 80s, and 90s. But their children became Republicans and continued to vote segregationist just like their parents.

Exactly. In fact, Southern politicians specifically lobbied for Social Security to exclude farm workers and domestic helpers (who were disproportionately black). Blacks also weren't able to take full advantage of FHA home loans and the GI Bill because of exclusionary practices.
Oh lord here we go again trying to hide history. Yep the Southern Democrats were racists and the facts are that those are all now Republicans which is how the South switch from Democrat to Republican and the facts that most southern whites are now Republican voters.
You can spin it anyways you like but those are the facts.
All I see is that the white racists have spread out across the nation.
Those guys marching in Charlottesville were not Democrats.
When there is a joint speech in Congress, the Repubs are solid white. The Dems are very diverse--it is pretty obvious. And just look where the base lives.
