Why does it always seem to be Republicans who shut down the government, or threaten to? I think maybe the trend began with Gingrich? Is it just that they're petty and petulant? Is it that they don't care who they hurt? Is it that they know they can't win points with the validity of their arguments? Am I right that it seems to be a plot used by Republicans, rather than Democrats?

Now Trump is threatening a shutdown.

There should be a law that if the government is shut down, the first thing that happens is that if the shut-down was engineered by one particular party, or spear-headed by particular individuals, their paychecks stop immediately. And if it drags on, some portion of their salaries will be subject to claw-back.

This would be a very good time to do a shutdown, Trump says

Republicans are not beholding to government.
They realize life would go on without it.
Democrats need government, way more than any Republican.

Because somebody needs to shut it down.

The dems certainly won't do it because they look at government (and do unmentionable things) like an oversexed fifteen-year-old kid looks at a Hustler magazine.

Well, after the #SchumerShutdown, Democrats probably won't try again for 100 years!

Bias, partisanship, seeing what you want to see, take your pick. Just because it seems to be Republicans doesn't mean it is. For example Democrats caused the last shutdown and yet you believe it's "always Republicans".

Symptom of the lack of politicians doing their jobs properly.. which is to work together to come to a compromise. Way too many think compromising is a sign of weakness when in reality it is their job to compromise....
