On Tuesday, in the middle of final exam week, a student from West Virginia University was sent an emailed letter from an assistant dean notifying him that he is “the subject of an investigation regarding alleged prohibited conduct.”
In the letter (attached below), Assistant Dean LiDell Evans informed Joseph Cortese, a fourth-year student, that he was required to attend a meeting on Friday concerning an investigation about a photo he posted on Instagram of himself dressed as a Border Patrol agent for Halloween.
"This letter serves to put you on notice that pursuant to section 9.2 of the Student Conduct Code and Discipline Procedure for the Main Campus of West Virginia University, you are the subject of an investigation regarding alleged prohibited conduct," Evans wrote.
The email also informed Cortese that if he did not contact the office or attend the meeting, his student account would have a "hold" placed on it.
He was arresting an illegal in the photo, so it was the action more than the costume.
"Cortese, who is also the Communications Director for Students for Trump, said that during the meeting, Assistant Dean Evans told him the costume could be “misinterpreted the wrong way” but acknowledged that it was Cortese’s “constitutional right” to wear the costume.

9.2 Investigation.
9.2.1
The Student Code Administrator shall investigate each formal complaint or allega-
tion of student misconduct from a credible source. The Student Code Administrator
may summon by written or electronic request any member of the University com-
munity for a meeting for the purposes of investigating and/or discussing allegations
of prohibited conduct, whether such allegations have been formally submitted or
have otherwise been made known to the Student Code Administrator.
9.2.2
If, after investigating the complaint or allegation of student misconduct, the Student
Code Administrator finds that there are reasonable grounds to conclude that the
student violated the Student Code, then charges will be brought against the student.
9.2.3
If, after investigating the complaint or allegation of student misconduct, the Student
Code Administrator does not find that there are reasonable grounds to conclude
that the student violated the Student Code, then the complaint or allegation will be
dismissed. In the event the complaint or allegation is dismissed, the Student Code
Administrator shall indicate the reason for the dismissal and notify the accused
student in writing.
Don't know what part of Section 6.2 he violated.
"6.2 Specific Acts. A student that commits any of the following acts is subject to sanction by the University..."
People like him knew darned well that some snowflakes were going to get upset. So they really have no one to blame but themselves.
These people know someone will get offended from them wearing politically or racially charged costumes, but they still wear it.
People talk about deliberately avoiding certain actions with women in light of the me too movement, so why can't people do the same when it comes to other things?
Yes, these snowflakes are annoying, but that's the world we live in so adjust to that.
