It is dumb to pick on these people who only qualify for minimal assistance anyway.
The average monthly SNAP benefit is $125.49 p/p.

Why would an able- bodied, aged 10-49, without dependent chikdren not be able to work, train or attend school at least 80 hrs a month to qualify?

Medical problems. Many people have medical problems who are not on disability. If you want them all on permanent disability that is defeating the purpose of saving taxpayer money.

These laws have existed in Florida for quite a while but there is something interesting about how their applied and who the new rule will affect. In the large cities, work requirements go by the book here, you have X amount of time to find work, prove your looking, or get the boot.

But in the rural areas of the state there is no action taken if someone does not find a job or doesn't prove they are looking. Its based on the idea that if a job does not exist near where the person resides then they get a pass and stay on. So we have huge areas of rural people who have entire generations on welfare and to be fair no chance of finding a job within 50 miles of their home and wouldn't have the transportation to get there. Americans forget just how quickly you go from city to huge rural areas in America. Sure they could move but it seems they don't.

So do they now get the boot? And if so would this be the same in the Dakotas, Wyoming, Georgia, Alabama, West Virginia, Mississippi ect. because I could see it really affecting rural populations.

The story of Spencer is a common one, especially in rural America.

The population in his town is 201. Even under the best of circumstances, there’s not much opportunity, yet he remains.

Reading between the lines it sounds like he worked for cash as an independent contractor, likely ineligible for Worker’s Comp, despite in on the job injury. His body is worn out. His car is busted. He does not have skills to transfer to a desk job, somewhere.

Thinking there are probably few opportunities for training for someone like Spencer in his local area, even if he had transportation. His criminal history continues to haunt him

I am hard- pressed to think of reasonable way out of desperate poverty for someone like spencer and his aging parents. Quitting smoking would be a start- easily said than done for lifetime smokers.

Maybe instead we can also change the laws so that "Supposed" Billionaires who avoid taxes and cheat other Americans out of payment and services they owe them - or contributions promised to charities but not delivered cannot use to bankruptcy courts to skirt their obligations.

It is already almost impossible for a single person to get food stamps in Missouri.
According to this undated link , 80% of those desiring to enlist are being declined. It’s a competitive situation.

The #1 reason for a turn down is obesity.

Sounds like this young man needs to get some college under his belt and/ or relocate to some place with more opportunities.

His situation is a reminder that there are thousands of local exonomies and it’s not all good or all bad, everywhere.

Now the same corporations are fine with ending food stamps, just keep the money coming.
“ Food Stamps” served many purposes, including propping up the price of surplus food.

There’s a reason why Doritos and Dew can be purchased with SNAP benefits while paper productucts cannot.

Does that include Trump himself? I'm tired of paying for his weekly vacations.

Yea, it is real hard riding in a cab with AC.
And then there’s the less common farm benefit to land owners with McMansions on acrage that used to be farmland.

The number of people and the $ value of benefits impacted by this proposed rule change is statistically insignificant.

It’s more of a political strategy to create a perception of a “get tough” on welfare to those inclined to read a headline or hear a sound bite.
