"If Americans believed in political correctness, we'd still be King George's boys - subjects bound to the British crown."

"Political correctness is tyranny with manners."

GUESS who made these very accurate statements and post your answer here.

Let's see who gets it. I am posting this trivia in this thread because it's political.

No cheating!!! See if you can guess it!

Would have been a tougher question if he hadn't just died, leading to sappy right-wing paeans to such sloppy thinking...

"Political correctness" is a euphemism invented by the Right Wing (when they were in the minority in Congress) for political ideas with which they disagree.

I agree with the two statements. I feel like these days, liberals are hypocritical because they want gays to have rights, but want people who talk about them to lose their jobs. Basically, they're OK with free speech as long as no prejudice takes place. I am tolerant of all people and support things like gay rights, but if people want to be prejudiced, they have every right to do so.

Soooo, who the hell is it? I'm too lazy to look it up, but will guess William F. Buckley due to Sag's comments about him having just died.

I'm guessing Charlton Heston since he died recently. And the sentiments could easily be his.

Yes, Heston. Meanwhile, some should be a little more careful with that hypocrite label. There were places in this country where you could be fired for so much as advocating that gays should have equal rights as little as 25 years ago. Perhaps some should know a little more about where their history comes from...

Actually, the term was first coined by the Bolsheviks to describe those ideas that would receive official state approval. It was re-introduced by leftist academicians in the mid twentieth century, and radical leader of the '60's, as a succinct reference to those beliefs that were considered acceptable in leftist ideology, the clear implication being that mere consideration or expression of any other ideas was unacceptable. Eventually both the left and the right began to use the term in somewhat tongue-in-cheek fashion, but its origins were with the left, who originally were quite serious about use of the term to apply to those ideas they considered acceptable.

I've read the history of the term from a number of sources, but here are a couple of references:
