Yes, he was - but the entire scope of the crime has to be taken into account before you fire. Running away from an unoccupied stolen while armed is different from running away from a triple homicide while armed. It’s pretty hairy, so you have to look at everything in a shooting like this.
While that may be, he had the toy gun in his hand. If it was in his waistband, you'd have an argument.
I have no love for criminals, and I realize in these types of stress filled situations you only have milliseconds to react, but it does seem a bit problematic when bodycam footage contradicts police statement. Yes, the teen may have had a replica weapon, but doesn't appear he turned around to point it before he was shot based on the video. I'm not saying I necessarily fault this cop but just saying, public perception.
There probably won't be any mass protests or the like for obvious reasons.
I agree with the posts supporting the cops. The guy ran (this signifies guilt) and appeared to be armed. The cops had to assume he was a danger - and their job was to neutralize that danger. People should not run from the cops - why is this so hard to grasp???? When they tell you to stop, stop! Could save your life, obviously.
How is someone a danger to the cop when they are running away?
The guy with the gun could have been going to a mall or some crowded place to shoot people for all the cop knew. He couldn't let that happen. What don't you get about that?
So you are saying gun owners are not allowed to run?
14-year-old boy shot by Tempe police didn't steal airsoft gun, truck owner says
The owner of the truck where 14-year-old Antonio Arce was spotted before being shot and killed by a Tempe police officer says police have not been accurate in describing what happened that afternoon.
Im sure you like to see cops kill minorities, but they cant just kill people because you enjoy the police state mentality.
It is indeed odd how many support a Nazi Germany style police state with straight out executions and then say in another breath that Nazi Germany was more left than right.
How can someone be a credible threat when they are running away from you?
If a civilian did this and tried to claim they felt threatened, they would be laughed out of the courtroom, prosecutors would ask how they could be a threat if they are running AWAY.
He was NO threat to the general public either, pretty sure it not acceptable to shoot someone based on what they COULD or MAY do. lol
Exactly, what this means is, if I see a lawful gun owner walking or running away from me I should be able to shoot him.

The fact that he had it in his hand is not an effective counter argument because he was running from a non-violent felony. That fact alone, puts the entire shooting into question because that is not how that Officer was trained. It’s the polar opposite of what he was trained to do in that situation. On the surface, the Officer screwed up, further investigation may prove otherwise, but right now, this is where we are.
