You are missing the forest for the trees. They have obviously done this to others before. Bezos is not caving to their demands, and that takes a lot of courage considering the pictures they purport to have on him. Someone has to finally stand up to the schoolyard bully and say enough. Bezos is doing that.
I don't like the man on many levels, but kudos to him for exposing this criminal behavior this publication routinely engages in. I hope this nullifies their immunity agreement with the SDNY. If it does, they are screwed.
