Take the 1993 Senate Committee Hearings on Violence In Video Games for instance:

These old farts haven't a clue about what they're talking about yet act as if they are in ANY kind of position to pass judgment. Sure that was a long time ago but even today we are inundated with lots of really old people in congress that should've retired 20-30 years ago. From their standpoint I can at least somewhat understand where they are coming from regarding Mortal Kombat but giving crap to Night Trap, the hell? It's clear that old politicians are completely out of touch with reality and common sense.

I think most politicians young or old shouldn't have a say about most things..

Case in point the new darling of the Dems AOC. I don't know how she got elected but she should sit down and stop talking.

Who can forget Hank Johnson the Dem from Georgia that was seated on a panel and questioning an admiral about troops being moved to the island of Guam. Johnson thought if too many people were on the island that it could tip over.

How about asking a politician to define a so called "assault weapon" or any gun for that matter. Most of them have no clue what they are talking about whether they are old or young.

The same can be said of the crisis at the border where most politicians have no clue what is going on beyond the talking points that have been okayed by the party.

Politicians are paid to talk. Who said that what they say has to be intelligent or even make sense?

WHY should we take something from 26 years ago as relevant to today? You whine about "These old farts" while having done nothing to prove your allegation about them being clueless. Why do you assume that people, many if not most having kids/grandkids as well as access to experts have no knowledge of video games or any other thing for that matter?

One need only listen to Trump to learn it does not.

Why does age matter? Why does Congress matter when it comes to raising your kid or the morality of violent games and their affect?

Doesn't matter what age one is, just defend rights.

Politicians act like they know a lot about everything all the time. In this case the subject matter experts were teenagers, so we call the politicians "out of touch old farts".

Now imagine you are a subject matter expert in something like business or entrepreneurship and the politicians say, "you didn't build that".

If you were intelligent, and honest, you would agree

The full text
Quote:
Obama, July 13: There are a lot of wealthy, successful Americans who agree with me — because they want to give something back. They know they didn’t — look, if you’ve been successful, you didn’t get there on your own. You didn’t get there on your own. I’m always struck by people who think, well, it must be because I was just so smart. There are a lot of smart people out there. It must be because I worked harder than everybody else. Let me tell you something — there are a whole bunch of hardworking people out there. (Applause.)

If you were successful, somebody along the line gave you some help. There was a great teacher somewhere in your life. Somebody helped to create this unbelievable American system that we have that allowed you to thrive. Somebody invested in roads and bridges. If you’ve got a business — you didn’t build that. Somebody else made that happen. The Internet didn’t get invented on its own. Government research created the Internet so that all the companies could make money off the Internet.

The point is, is that when we succeed, we succeed because of our individual initiative, but also because we do things together. There are some things, just like fighting fires, we don’t do on our own. I mean, imagine if everybody had their own fire service. That would be a hard way to organize fighting fires.

So we say to ourselves, ever since the founding of this country, you know what, there are some things we do better together. That’s how we funded the GI Bill. That’s how we created the middle class. That’s how we built the Golden Gate Bridge or the Hoover Dam. That’s how we invented the Internet. That’s how we sent a man to the moon. We rise or fall together as one nation and as one people, and that’s the reason I’m running for President — because I still believe in that idea. You’re not on your own, we’re in this together.
If you were partisan ******* you'd repeat only a small, admittedly poorly worded, part of the point while ignoring all of the relevant context.

No one can be an expert on everything.

We need to elect politicians who are open-minded and can synthesize information. Not these *******s who try to hold on to power for their party

I support term limits. Age isn't the issue. By definition, 90% of Congress don't know **** about any particular bill. If they do their job, they are supposed to listen to their constituents.

You need to understand how the legislative branch works. Each senator or rep has half a dozen staff members for that office. However each committee probably has 100 staffers that give the elected officials their “facts”. Then you have thousands of lobbyists who are presenting “facts” to staffers.

The whole system is out of touch because it doesn’t work to our benefit anymore.
We must take money out of politics.
