Because it would decrease the profit for the gun manufacturers who financially back the NRA.

Because they are against anything that has to do with accountability.

Dems Oppose Bill Alerting ICE To Illegal Immigrants Trying To Buy Guns

Democrats this week approved legislation to require background checks for essentially all sales and transfers of firearms -- but rejected GOP-led efforts to amend the legislation to alert law enforcement authorities when gun buyers, including illegal immigrants, fail those background checks.

...
Republicans in the House charged that H.R. 8, known as "The Bipartisan Background Checks Act of 2019," should have included Florida Rep. Greg Steube's proposed amendment to require that law enforcement be notified "when an individual attempting to purchase a firearm fails a federal background check." (H.R. 8 was numbered in honor of former Arizona Rep. Gabby Giffords, who was shot in Arizona on Jan. 8, 2011 by a mentally ill gunman.)

“Clearly, the Democrats on the House Judiciary Committee don’t care about preventing gun violence, they simply are playing politics with Americans’ Second Amendment rights,” Steube, a Republican, said after the vote. “The fact that Democrats do not want law enforcement notified if an individual attempting to purchase a firearm fails a background check is truly troubling.”

He continued: “In rejecting this amendment, the Democrats have shown their true colors. It is clear they are not interested in preventing gun violence or stopping the illegal purchase of firearms, but rather they are only interested in limiting the rights of law-abiding citizens to advance their own political agenda."

Because Democrats are against ANYTHING that is meant to combat Illegal immigration..

Democrats have been going to great lengths and expending huge amounts of time and energy to do NOTHING about Illegal immigration..

Bills often include a number of unrelated items, anyone know if what's mentioned in the cited article includes the entirety of the bill?

There's your answer right there.

Can anyone explain why Democrats would be against ICE being notified when illegals try to buy guns?

Yes. That's easy. They hate Trump and everything he supports.

No problem at all. But, we must also have a universal background that DOES NOT allow the person to buy the gun until complete, and a Gun Registry.

If everyone is ok with this--great!

Here you go. From the Washington Post:

Quote:
The Judiciary Committee hearing became a rancorous partisan battle over whether to expand background checks. Republicans offered amendments to the legislation that were voted down by the committee, including one that would make background checks free and another that would allow transfers of firearms to victims of domestic violence without a background check.
Typical Republican tactics that for some reason didn't get reported by Fox or by all those supposedly outraged gun lover's blogs like the one quoted in the OP. The WaPo story goes on to report:

Quote:
At one point, the discussion turned into a debate on immigration and border security surrounding an amendment that would require notifying Immigration and Customs Enforcement when an undocumented person tried to buy a gun, with Republicans accusing Democrats of not wanting to secure the southern border. Republicans moved to adjourn the hearing in the ninth hour, a motion that was voted down.

“I’m afraid what we are engaged in here is an exercise in obfuscation and confusion that is meant to mask the fact that the Republicans are not in favor of . . . the universal background check legislation,” said Rep. Hank Johnson (D-Ga.) “They want to hold this up as long as possible and score political points and try to confuse people and scare folks.”
And a great job of obfuscation it's been. Four pages so far on what turns out to be a ploy by the Republicans to make the Dems the bad guys when in fact no Republican really wants background checks at all - never mind having the results reported to Law Enforcement or ICE or any other legal entity.

Great way to honor the anniversary of the mass shooting at a Parkland, Fla., high school that killed 17 students and staff on Feb. 14, 2018. Keep those thoughts and prayers and political gamesmanship coming, oh Republican party.

I'm wondering if the man power exists for police to dispatch an officer to investigate every person trying to illegally obtain a gun? Heck we just had a shooting in Aurora Illinois where the gun owner was supposed to surrender his FOID card and weapons to the police due to lying about a previous felony conviction, and local authorities didn't investigate. I'm glad to see something is finally being done about better back ground checks, but investigating every single person legal or not for trying to purchase a weapon would be a waste of manpower. Just stop them from purchasing a weapon and better monitor the dealers and ammunition. Criminals don't care how they obtain a firearm. They will care if they can't purchase ammunition or equipment to make it. Is it a perfect solution? Nope, but at least something is finally being done.

We had a mass shooter, I can't remember his name but I think it was the Pulse Nightclub shooter that tried to buy the murder weapons at a gun store and he was refused because the dealer was getting an odd vibe from the guy. I'm surprised he wasn't sued by the NAACP for denying him.... The dealer did notify the cops that were not able to do much and the shooter ended up going to another gun store where he was able to buy the murder weapons. The rest is infamous.

If a red flag goes up when it comes to a gun sale then the authorities should be notified.

What is the Left afraid of? That the illegal alien will be afraid to buy a gun because he might be found out to be illegal?

Ahh being illegal he should not be allowed to buy a gun. What does an illegal alien need with a gun anyway?
Again-- it is not clear the Democrats targeted this amendment or just refused to consider any of the amendments. The Republicans were trying to play games and gut the bill, delay the vote, etc.......
