I've been working non stop for the past 9 years as a toolmaker. We could use a break. The trouble with the Obama economy is a lot of my coworkers did not earn enough to save much money, so an economic slowdown is going to hurt for them. The union workers are doing great, but they are the minority in manufacturing. They will do fine, but the non union folks will probably have to find other work, work for less, or change professions.

At the rate things have been going, manufacturing is going to decline in the USA and China will emerge as the dominant superpower. We don't have the skilled workers like in years past. They are all in China now, an they work for very reasonable rates. No one will be able to stand up to them, with all their manufacturing might. Americans will continue to fight among themselves over the scraps and crumbs, until there is nothing left to fight over. Sad future we are looking at.

Trump can change this by continuing to put pressure on China. He has succeeded in slowing China's growth, but consumers, corps and farmers are also being negatively effected here. It's going to be a game of chicken to see who budges first. China is resilient while Americans continue to bicker and whine. This could go on for a long time, but Americans are softer and wimpier than generations past. We need to thicken our skin and understand what we are up against, and why we must stand up for our nation. Future generations deserve better. I hope we can all agree on that.

Ken

Yeah, but I work for a living...

Obama's best year (wage growth) was 2011.

That year, hourly worker's pay increased 2.5%

Average annual wage growth during the Obama years was 1.8% with inflation (1.4%) taking the lion's share of the increase.

Since President Trump has taken office, wages for hourly workers have increased at an annualized rate of 5.8%

Essentially, what has happened is we have gone from a net annual pay increase of 0.4% to an annualized net pay increase of 3.3%

See how that's different?

IMO, China doesn’t need us as much as we do them even more when 99.9% of what we buy is made there.
Trump might of slowed it but as you said China’s resilient And i believe they will find a way though easier then we will. China has a stronghold on us because American companies started outsourcing sadly those companies will never return here. I have a feeling as you said that this will go on for a good while.

And yet again, Toyman uses that lame excuse. Repubs still control 2/3 of the power in Washington, and he has to blame the 1/3 for whatever ills befall the country. Too bad for your sad excuse, the House hasn't even passed any legislation that would affect the economy at all. Everything the Repubs did over the last 2 years, is still intact.

Your own link shows an uninterrupted rise in wages. You can't even tell where the election occurred.

And the rest of your claim is garbage. Here is an article from January on real weekly wages:

The biggest increase was in early 2015. Guess who was president then?

This is what happens when the WH tries to micro-manage the economy like Trump is doing.

China needs someone to buy their goods. American corps can go anywhere in the world and trade dollars for goods, but China has all the manufacturing infrastructure in place to continue peddling goods successfully. Europe will buy, but their economy is not as strong as America's, and their consumers probably won't fill the void.

China has a serious debt problem. It's probably worse than they admit. If they can't find enough buyers for their goods, they will have to raise prices and hope they can pay down some of that debt. Or, they can start WW3 and make a stand, once and for all. I wouldn't be surprised if it happens, but I hope it doesn't. It would be a war like no other, and the bloodshed would be unimaginable. And Russia would stand 100% with China, against America. Our allies would be wary of getting deeply involved in that mass. We are creeping towards dangerous and precarious times, I'm afraid.

If our corps cared about America, they would be reshoring at once. But they are owned and managed by cowards who will flee America at the first sign of trouble. We have never been more alone, which is why it's so shameful to see Americans bickering and dividing each other up the way we are doing today. United we stand, divided we fall, as was always the case.
