For the last few years, the cost of owning a home in my community went up with the raising cost of real-estate. Now that the values of homes are falling, the city government has decided it still needs the fancy and expensive community programs more suited to boom times, so they raise taxes. Local sales taxes are going up, hotel taxes are going up, restaurant taxes are going up, hidden fees and excise taxes are going up, user fees are going up. Tolls are going up. Parking tickets are going up. You get the idea! Any money saved by the Bush tax cut has been eaten up by local taxes and fees. What can we do?

Start going to town hall meetings and referendums and put out a voice against excess spending.
