Imo, people should be able to accept or turn down business they want or don't want. It's a free market. If customers don't like your service you will be out of business quickly. People shouldn't be compelled to do anything.
So if I own a restaurant then putting up a sign saying 'no negroes served here' is just fine and should be allowed?
As a self identifying conservative I can think of far more urgent and concerning matters than working over LGTQB rights. If it doesn't affect me I don't care. What consenting adults do isn't my concern. My only issue is if bogus hate laws come into play. Like in western Europe or Canada people get fined for using the wrong pronouns or being forced to bake cakes if it's not in their beliefs. That is my only issue.
We have far more urgent and pressing needs. Securing our borders, stopping illegal invasion, stopping the spread of socialism, limiting Muslim refugees who refuse to assimilate, combating terrorism, taking care of our own homeless, poor, veterans, inner city poverty etc. Those issues are all more important.
" My only issue is if bogus hate laws come into play"
Over and over we politicians pass "feel good" legislation.
If I kill you or rob you or beat you up, there ARE laws to already to punish me for those action, murder, assault, etc. Why do we need "hate" laws which are in realty, IMPOSSIBLE to look into a persons mind and KNOW WHY they did something?
Besides, it is OK for people to "hate" if they want to.
If want to make "hate" a crime, we should go after ALL those suffering from TDS. They show their HATE every day and MANY ADMIT IT.
Take religion out of it for a minute. Would you host, cater, photograph an event for any individual or organization that asked you to ? Say Huckabee or the Family Research Council wanted you to cater an anti-gay rights event or print flyers advertising the event with derogatory messages. In this case it would be legal for you to refuse service, but even if it was illegal, would you in good conscience provide the services to make $$$.
"but even if it was illegal, would you in good conscience provide the services to make $$$."
I can see a BLACK owned caterer agreeing to do a job for a KKK rally now, or BLM being hired to provide security for the NRA convention!
Amazing that conservatives today are more concerned about two consenting adults loving each other than they are with separating children from their families and locking them in cages. He blames evangelicals for not being active enough or fighting hard enough to prevent gay marriage from having been legalized in the first place. Really Mr. Huckabee?
What an absolutely despicable and hellish time to be an American, especially one who isn't white, straight, and the right kind of Christian.
Oh well, who you love is a threat to the US? Until God speaks for himself, man will continue to spew hate using religion as his defense for hate. I have no farther comments!
Huckabee and his daughter would be better off if they just kept their opinions to themselves. We all know they’re ignorant evangelical hypocrites. Nothing else there.
"would be better off if they just kept their opinions to themselves."
Of course, I would serve Huckabee or the Family Research Council. Once again, I'm in business to make money. Seriously, in no way would it be appropriate of me to make it my place to judge people for what they think their religion tells them is right and good and absolutely refuse to serve them. You do know, don't you, that Jesus said in the bible to not judge, lest you be judged. Neither did Jesus advocate that certain sinners should be discriminated against.
You'd put making money above your personal beliefs. Other people have more integrity.
I wanted to keep religion out of it. Personal beliefs and values don't always come from religion. Though I'm not Christian, I know enough about the New Testament to argue with you over what the phrase 'judge not lest ye be judged' means, but that's a religion forum topic.
I went through the first 2 pages and I saw a lot of condemnation of Huckabee, intolerance of Christians and not any questioning if that is what he really said.
Seems to me this is what he said
“The biggest threat to biblical principles today is the failure to apply a biblical standard of maleness and femaleness“
That is not “LGBTQ rights the biggest threat to the US”
