Fun fact; Ukraine, formerly a region of Russia, now a country, is the first country outside Israel to have both a Jewish president and prime minister (link). Comedian Volodymyr Zelensky, who ironically played a sitcom role as a president with no political experience, handily won election; despite himself having no political experience. Volodymyr Groysman, who is Jewish, was elected Prime Minister in 2016.

Is this one-off, or a pattern? We live in interesting times.
Ii's nothing unusual for Ukraine. Many Ukrainian Jews consider their homeland Ukraine.
The funniest thing here is that - the comedian Zelensky beat the political clown Poroshenko.

My maternal grandmother's parents, thus two of my great-grandparents, lived in Kiev. Sometime during the 1890's the Czar's army was about to force another five years of service for Great-Granda Jack. He and his wife fled. We thought he came to the U.S. but we found an 1896 photo developed by a Montreal photo studio. They relocated to Yonkers, New York.

My mother's paternal family has a similar story, though about 35 years later.
In the 40s, every last Jewish person in their town was rounded up, marched to the woods on the outskirts of town, and gunned down by Nazis with the blessing of local villagers who they had grown up with, gone to school with, and done business with for generations. Among the dead were my great great grandparents and all of my aunts, uncles, and cousins on that side. The entire family gone - poof - just like that.
Can't say I have too many warm feelings about Ukraine and certainly don't feel like it's a homeland, but am happy that the tide has changed to where a Ukrainian Jew could rise to the highest office of the country.
At least the Russia's can't claim Ukrainians are all Nazis now. Sad day for the Russian propaganda department.
Russia never claimed that ALL Ukrainians are nazis. But there are nazis military forces across the Ukraine and Ukrainian authorities support them. And for your information, Zelensky has already said in yesterday's interview that there is nothing wrong with followers of Stepan Bandera. He and all other Hitler's collaborators are National heroes of Ukraine.
But every prejudiced and narrow-minded person thinks that Russian media is surely Russian propaganda only. CNN told you that?
Benjamin Disraeli, who was a British prime minister in the 19th century, was Jewish.
Disraeli was baptised as an Anglican as a child and was buried in a crypt at his church. He never would have been able to rise in politics if he was a practicing Jew as it was illegal at the time to be an MP if you were not Christian.

That restriction was lifted, I believe, in 1831, or about seven years after he became an MP.
