ETA: Her two friends corroborate her story, by the way.

This assumes trump is a serial rapist, not merely a controversial president whose critics admit to be willing to take any means to bring him down. Trump has never been convicted of rape nor assault thus your power argument is irrelevant.

Besides. Why would arguably the most powerful man in NYC at the time ...risk so much.... to display his power over a crazy old lady?

Sorry but billionaires being serial rapists doesnt happen. Do a little research on the kind of men who are. Usually socioeconomically disadvantaged. Thats why they need to assert power.

I don't know whether or not he did it -- his response 'not my type' -- the most inappropriate thing an accused person could say.

And the fact he said it loud and proud is disgusting.

She's an odd duck....and I'm not sure about her accusations.

But his response to the situation shows his tone deafness when it comes to this kind of thing.

A million and one appropriate responses - 'not my type' not one of them. A few inappropriate responses 'not my type' way up there on the list.

Women have been fawning over Trump since he was a kid. Fame, power, looks, and money is a powerful drug for most women.

If I didn't do it, I'd just ignore her. That is all.

well, I didn't assume what have happened.

All I am saying is that "Even if these two were both in the dressing room, all she had to do is scream. There were no witnesses, no security camera? I don't think her words were very believable." You don't have to like donald trump, but it is pretty sad that all we have right now is somebody's words (her words) Rape is a serious accusation.

If she wanted others to take her rape accusation seriously, then file a lawsuit. Publishing a book is not the answer because many would view the book as a fiction, especially according to herself, ".. Many people think of rape as sexy" and she didn't feel she was a victim. All these said, mind's eye or not, it is not unusual or unsafe to assume that maybe she just wanted to promote her book. Just sayin'.

The problems with this woman's testimony are many. She's a political activist opposing pretty much all of the positions the President supports. The alleged rape happened more than 20 years ago, so good luck proving anything now. She apparently fantasizes about rape scenarios, and the scenario does sound a lot like a rape fantasy. Her key corroborating evidence is that she told two friends the same story at the time, and New York magazine confirmed the account with them. So the best corroborating witness testimony is a couple of girlfriends who say, "Yeah she told us the same story at the time." They didn't see anything. They don't know whether their friend is telling the truth. And it is even very likely that they're lying too. What do we know about their politics? Are they likely to be lying to score political points for Team Democrat? But the fact that she fetishizes rape is by far the biggest blow to her credibility. "I think most people people think of rape as being sexy. Think of the fantasies." Those are her words ... right before Anderson Cooper abruptly cut to commercial lest this woman completely humiliate the fakest of fake news outlets in America. I mean, seriously there should be about a million more questions for a political activist woman making rape accusations against the opposition who comes right out and says that most people think rape is sexy. That's an astoundingly odd thing to say right in the middle of an, "I was raped" interview. But not CNN. "Get this woman off the air immediately!" Why do you suppose that is??

And I can play the same game easily enough though. Barack Obama and Joe Biden kidnapped me and raped me! Can you prove me wrong? Give me a little time, I'm sure I can find a couple dozen corroborating witnesses who will swear to it because they're Right-leaning fanatics who will do or say anything to destroy somebody important on "the other team." But I can certainly do better than Jean Carroll. My corroborating witnesses will have actually seen stuff! Hey, they were probably there with me getting raped too! See the trouble here? Anyone can accuse anyone of anything anytime.

Another problem with rape accusations against Trump. Anyone can scream, "I was raped by that man!" They'll get pats on the back, TV interviews and lots of money just for saying it, even if all you've got is "he said she said" to back it up with. Most of America didn't know or care who Jean Carroll was before this. Now she's world-famous. Makes for a great PR stunt, right?

The bigger problem is, the propaganda arm of the Democratic Party (aka the MSM) normalized completely ignoring rape accusations when they were leveled against Bill Clinton. Now, being accused of rape is just apparently something to look forward to if you run for President. I think we need to be consistent on the matter: There is far too much incentive to lie about these things, so we should never just take anybody's word for it when they're leveling accusations of rape, assault, etc. We should do as the courts do and assume innocence until guilt can actually be proven. Otherwise, we're in for a whole crap-ton of false accusations from now on.
well said my thought exactly!

Rape accusation should be taken seriously, but this one doesn't have much credibility in my opinion. I agree with your last sentence 100000000%

Donald Trump is a known philanderer. He's cheated on every wife he's ever had (all three of them). It is a fact that Donald Trump paid off a Playboy model and a porn star so they would not discuss his sexual affairs with them. There is audio of Donald Trump saying he grabs women by the genitals because he's rich so they let him do it. Trump has had over 16 women accuse him of inappropriate sexual conduct over the last 32 years.

And yet, when another woman comes forward accusing Trump of sexual assault, his base immediately dismisses the woman, calls her names, and says she is seeking 15 minutes of fame.

I wonder if Trump supporters would be that quick to dismiss a woman if she came out and said Obama raped her 27 years ago, and call her a tramp? That's a rhetorical question, because of course they would not.

She should have filed a lawsuit if she was serious.

Publishing a book / getting interviewed on TV (claiming many people think of sex as sexy) doesn't make her look very good. It has nothing to do with being a Trump supporter. Plus, rape IS a crime. Just because she didn't feel like a victim, she was indeed a victim if this actually happened to her.

I would have said the exact same thing if this happened to Obama.

I don't really care about the "affairs". As long as the wives don't complain, none of my business. (same thing: Don't care about Clinton's affairs either, none of my business.)

But rape accusation is a serious accusation. Many men's lives have been ruined by false accusation. Like the other poster posted

As a woman, I believe that if the woman did not file a lawsuit, then the accusation is just gossiping. (I have an aunt who is a rape victim by the way.)

Doubting a woman's word, can be taboo in many people's mind. law enforcement, prosecutors, and the general public, have a blind spot when it comes to sexual assault. It is not “innocent until proved guilty,” but “it was alleged, so it must be true.” Never mind that it might be a lie.

I don't know what others definition of "should be taken seriously" is. My own interpretation is that "file a lawsuit, then investigate. Justice should be served" I don't think "Just believe her, don't doubt her" = taking the accusation seriously.

Okay...he's "tone deaf". Big deal. He kind of flippantly said it, it wasn't like he was saying it as if rape was okay. Just more proof that everybody has to be offended by anything and everything people say today about anything and everything.
