How many people are caught that way? Not many. Almost all cases are the kid's word vs the adult's word.

This seems to be an emotionally charged topic for some people for whatever reason.

FWIW I think people who are doing hard prison time for simply using drugs got the worst deal of anyone. But I don't feel sorry for rapists, child molestors, etc. they knew what they were doing. It's very easy to go through life without molesting anyone. It's not something a person "needs" to do.

No one needs to use drugs either. It's very easy to go through life without using drugs. Like Nancy Reagan said - just say NO.

Sure, as long as you dont suffer with those afflictions, of course its easy to go thru life without committing those crimes!

You can't compare drug users to rapists and child molesters. It's not the same thing at all.

The desire to sexually violate someone is not an affliction. It's just evil. You do have control over it.

We’re Rethinking Prisons. Is It Time to Rethink Sex Offender Registries? - In These Times

The article cites research showing there is no change in the recidivism rate with people on the registry:

I have seen other studies that show it increases the recidivism rate because it doesn't allow people to reintegrate into society.

New evidence says US sex-offender policies are actually causing more crime

I wonder if an yes, comes from someone related to a sex offender. Your poll doesn’t have what would really be my opinion but I still voted.

In my opinion young people for which one is barely an adult and consensual sex between what in many countries is allowed and considered “dating’ of two young adults/teenagers, just because a parent doesn’t agree, should not label one of them as a sex offender.

For teachers and other professionals who are in a position that should show trust, the penalties should be more harsh as they prey on kids.

Sending or forwarding one or two pics that someone else txt to a teenager and the stupid teenager forwards that pics, should not make someone a sex offender either. JMO!

A teen registered as a sex offender for taking nude pictures of themselves for the rest of their life is draconian.
Then teach your children better. Some consequences need to be severe. Period.

Being on a SO list is minor compared to what a SO deserves.

Serious crime. If she’s under the age of consent she cannot consent - by definition and by law. His age is irrelevant.

When my grandpa came home from Korea in WW2, he and my grandma married right away (he was 23/24...she was 14), no one ever said anything negative about their marriage!

They went on to be married for over 60 yrs, had 4 kids and were well respected members of their community.

So it's okay for adults to marry 14 year olds?
