oops -- someone isn't clear on immigration terminology.

You can live in the USA legally as a non-citizen.

Non-citizen does not mean you are an illegal resident.

We lived in the USA with Visa status for 4 years before we got our green cards and had them for 7 years before we got our citizenship.

We were legal the whole time.
