I don't know the specific statutes but there have been numerous cases where a radio show host wanted to run for office and hold down a radio show gig simultaneously only to find it there was no way to do it due to the equal time rule.

Happened in my native Ohio earlier this year. The following link basically explains the situation but there is no specific statute cited by either the media or the radio show host.

He is a candidate for public office. The station owner could consider his program one big political commercial.

The owner of 2 radio stations in Texas ran for statewide public office. His BFF filed to run for that same office on the opposing party ticket. When the question was raised about the radio program he did while also running for office, he replied, ask the opposition. If he objects, I'll give up the program during the campaign. Of course few were aware of their connection. Friend and opponent said not a problem. So Dan Patrick continued his program on his radio station. Joe should talk to Dan.

Exactly. If they kept his show they'd have to give all the candidates a show.

The Fairness and Equal time doctrines ceased to be in 1987. They only applied to stations who had to get a license from the FCC.

LOL.
Of the Tea Party variety.

He shares some history and behaviors with Trump.

Over the years, he has been on nearly every side of every issue

He also has a prior history of making differences very personal.

He has a lot of personal baggage.

It would be good TV to watch these two debate.

Yes, and the Zapple Doctrine is no longer, as well. But I think Section 315 is what is in question and what they're trying to steer clear of.
