This is why as a single-male without children I won't be voting Democratic.
Up to $37,500 just for having a baby? About 3.7 million people have a baby a year, it's gotten to the point where these proposals are just bizzare.
Kamala Harris proposed a new plan of 6 months of paid parental leave for having a baby valued at $37,500 considering there are close to 4 million births a year that is quite a large proposal.
She also proposed $6,000 a year reserved for low and middle-income families for emergencies, additionally for families she wants a refundable tax credit for families paying more than 30% of their income in rent.
Little hint - Large American Corporations, most of them, use large amounts of "contractors" simply to get away with not paying benefits and proper taxes.
It's not a good trend. Yet you and others seem to support the idea.
Remember when America was Great? Pensions and all?
Remember how many pensions failed before the Federal Government created the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corp, in the early 70’s?
insurance is a great way to do it. they put pencil to paper and do the actuarial work to make it happen. When a single male employer doesn't need it, he doesn't have to pay for it. Like maternity carre under the ACA.
Last I checked it took a male and female engaging in unprotected sex to create a baby.
Long before the ACA, most employers’ group healthcare plans charged the same premium to males and females, 20 year olds and 55 year olds.
ALL insurance ( healthcare, auto, life, liability home, renter, crop, business continuity etc) mutualizes (socializes) risks.
I'm very surprised their fertility rates remain very low despite all of that. It's like no govt incentive does anything to get people to have more children. Had I lived in W Europe or Japan / S Korea I would have much more seriously thought about kids.
I do think some amount of paid maternity leave should be mandatory but 6 months ain't happening. Maybe 1 or 2 months is possible.
The poorest people in the world with zero benefits have the most children. Countries with the most robust benefits have the lowest birth rates.

Probably because the goal isn’t to increase fertility rates, but to incentivize returning to the workforce. Without adequate paid leave, non-affluent women either return to work to soon, before they are physically healed, or drop out of the workforce altogether.
