That was never going to happen. Assad rejected the Kurdish bid for a federated state - I believe last week or so? The two have been in talks for at least a year. Assad and the Kurds have never directly clashed. Both are basically secular in their orientation. At this time, ISIS remans active. Syrians rebels still hold Idlib. As conditions stabilized, it would have been preferable for the Kurds to negotiate with Assad from a position of strength. They couldn't hold off the Turks on their own. The Kurds are a minority in the area. Assad still supplies some government services. The Kurds hold territory with oil and gas.

This about Turkey seeing the chance to cross the border and kill as many PKK fighters as it can get its hands on. Whatever the problems Turkey has had with the Turkish Kurds over the decades, there is more than enough blame to go around. That is not our problem. What happened today is. We are under no obligation to subordinate U.S. interests for Turkey.

And again for the 50th time, the US is under no obligation nor agreement with the Kurds for anything aside from ISIS. I have no idea where you or anyone get that the US somehow has a formal alliance with a non-state entity, one that is heavily and directly linked to a rebel movement that includes terror attacks against a fellow long term, NATO ally Turkey. These Kurds in fact provide direct support for Kurdish terror factions.

Imagine if Turkey supported the Taliban the same way? You all would lose your damn minds about it.
Fox News reports that Trump went off his talking points and screwed the pooch:
Quote:
PENTAGON – President Trump "went off script" during his call on Sunday with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, before he announced that the U.S. would withdraw all troops from northeast Syria ahead of a Turkish military operation in the region, a well-placed senior U.S. military source told Fox News on Wednesday.

During the phone call, Trump had talking points, according to the source: “Tell Erdogan to stay north of the border."

From tweets and other statements made the last day or so, Trump appears infuriated that Europe would not fall into line and repatriate ISIS. Although observers disagree, he is convinced Turkey will take them off his hands.

Time will tell. That plan might work and we will have trashed U.S. world reputation and betrayed the Kurds to save a few dollars. Or it will fail and the ISIS threat profile could spike. Either way, that strikes me as a lose - lose.

NO. Our being there in the first place destabilized the region even more. Our being there escalated tensions, and exasperated the issues that already existed.

How many times must we make the same mistakes before we learn our lessons?

When Europe steps up for the Kurds you may have a point, until then you don't.

Didn't we start this country with bullets? I'm sitting here right next to the Springfield Arsenal and near Lead Mine Rd where the lead for the Revolution was mined.

Were all the exhibits lying to me?

Actually Nato countries did increase their presence in Syria. Of course Trump pulled out without telling them.

Hmm.....I don't remember Europe being the Prime Motivator for the War in Iraq and the general War on Terror that ended up causing much of this.......I must have missed something.

I really wish people would at least use a comparable event if they want to make a point.

Are the Turks set on world domination? Have they built Death camps to kill and then cremate the bodies? Are the Turks threatening the USA in any way? Did Syria invite the USA to invade them?

No to all the above. Then why the Hell did we involve ourselves in the first place and why are we still there? Syria doesn't want us there. Syria's allies dont want us there. ISIS became a real problem because we went there.

How many of these people crying that we need to stay have sons or daughters serving in the region? I don't but I have served in the region. We don't understand them and they dont understand us nor want us there.

It isn't our fight and certainly not worth risking escalating the war.
