I unironically embrace the bashing of rural Americans. they, as a group, are bad people who have made bad life decisions. Some, I assume, are good people. But this nostalgia for some imagined pastoral way of life is stupid and we should shame people who aren't pro-city.

And they tell us we vote against our own interests, as if our "interests" belong with people like the above.

City people as a group couldn't survive on their own if they tried. They wouldn't know the first thing to do.

Just some PhD candidate who unintentionally became the voice of what's really going on.

Look closely at most so-called "country people" and you will find they are anything but....they rely 100% on the same stuff we all do.

It is somewhat true that, in our modern society, those who decide not to pursue a specialized education (in trades and/or in other knowledge based industries) will largely be left behind. I think the Opiate Crisis and the amazing reliance of places like WV on the Federal Dole prove this out.

They aren't bad people. They - or their parent and then they - made decisions which are not, in the modern society and world, allowing their families to be fruitful.

There are such things as metrics. These people are NOT successful.

No amount of excuses will do....isn't it the Right that tells us "you have free will"? Do these people have to live in trailers and dole out massive amounts of pills to their families each morning?

Just another elitist proving why Trump is going to win again.

Great idea! Bash a big chunk of people in states the Democrat needs to win.

Meh, A large portion of my family lives in Boone County WV, they've been coal miners for generations and still are. They're getting along just fine, they like their way of life and where they have chosen to live. It's not up to anyone else to decide how other people should live their lives, if you don't like living in the country and coal mining then you shouldn't do it but don't try to shame and judge others who do.

They are control freaks and want to tell you and FORCE you how to live your lives. It is the basis all liberal/progressive (Democrat) thought.
