That was one major reason, but not the only one. It was also so they could rise up at a moment's notice against their own government if it became abusive or tyrannical.

And it was also so the citizens could defend themselves against common criminals, since most areas in George Washington's time had no police forces. The Founders knew that the most effective police force was the citizens themselves, since they were everywhere and criminals couldn't really hide from them very much. The force of sheer numbers put the citizens on the winning side more often.

And a criminal panning a crime knew that there would probably be a number of armed citizens nearby when they committed it. So it was likely that most planned crimes were never actually attempted, as the crook decided not to risk it.

The constant violations of the 2nd amendment we're seeing today, takes away much of that risk, and criminals are much more tempted to carry out their crimes, knowing they have a higher chance of success, than they would against an armed and ready populace.

If you actually did some research and cared about the truth, you'd know that. It was about PREVENTING a professional army. The exact opposite of what you just posted.
Correct. And this goes to the heart of the matter. ANY threat, foreign or domestic. And among the domestic threats, from civilians or from government.

One of the most important reasons for enacting the 2nd amendment, as poster Bentbow recently pointed out, is that no government in the USA, gets to decide how the people defend themselves from government.

Or against your friendly local mugger, home invader or rapist either.

If everybody is allowed to own and carry a gun (as the 2nd amendment commands), most people probably still won't bother. But a few will. And crooks will need to think twice about committing their crime if there's a pretty good chance there's an armed person or three in the crowd.

How many crimes would NOT happen if the 2nd amendment were obeyed as intended? It's a more effective deterrent than anything else government has ever tried.

Wow. Once the facts are given to the liberals, they sure vanish from the thread in a hurry, don't they?

Why do I get the feeling that, in a few days or weeks or months, they will be back, re-stating their debunked ideas as though they were facts and re-igniting the debate as though they hadn't been proven wrong earlier?

Yes, where many a California liberal has recently relocated to.

Also, you will notice that during President Trumps term in office, there were very few if any mass shootings at all. Now with Joey boy in office we suddenly are having a ton of them again. Just in time to conveniently line up with his bull**** gun control agenda. Of course, the same was true during Obama’s time too.

And of course the media very quickly stopped talking about the Colorado incident as soon as it was revealed the shooter wasn’t white.

All you have to do is look at the statistics in the states that are constitutional concealed carry states. Tennessee just joined that list today. I am soon moving to Maine which is also a constitutional carry state and regularly ranks as the safest state in the USA. You better believe I will be exercising my right and carrying daily when we get there.
