Moments after he was elected as the country’s youngest member of Congress, controversial Republican Madison Cawthorn, who has said he wants to unify people, stoked division in his western North Carolina district.

In what was anticipated to be a close race for North Carolina’s 11th Congressional District, stretching across all or part of 17 western North Carolina counties and including Asheville, the 25-year-old Cawthorn commanded a wide margin of victory. He led his Democratic opponent, retired Air Force colonel Morris “Moe” Davis, 55% to 42%, according to unofficial results with all precincts reporting.

“Cry more, lib,” Cawthorn tweeted in his first post as a Congressman-elect.

As a newly elected Congressman? I'd ignore it. Too easy. Engaging that sort of person is all downside and no upside for this kid.

I wonder if any of our new, Republican congressmen will stand on the floor of the House and scream "Fu*k you Joe Biden"? I doubt it-after all, we're adults, not Democrats.

I agree that anyone elected to Federal office or top-level state office should act with greater comportment.

It all occurred in a tweet Cawthorn made giving thanks and pledging to represent all of his constituents.

Fred Wellman is not a constituent.

I somehow suspect that nuance will be lost on most.

I am a conservative, and I likely agree with many/most of Madison Cawthorn's positions.

But what the heck is with electing these 20-something kids to elected office??? We don't need anymore people who will do nothing but stay in government their whole lives. Someone this young doesn't have any life experience to speak of. On either side. AOC is just a punk kid. And this Senate candidate out of Georgia. WTF are you???

Being a congressperson in my view is NOT a real job. Public office should not be a career in itself. One should do this as a public service after a productive career in the private sector and having actually participated in the real world for some time.
