This is ( IMHO ) a fairly well known statement related to politics , which is why I thought it fitting to start up a thread about it .

My vote is going to be other , which I'll naturally elaborate on a bit , but first I'd like to see what y'all think of this issue .

Sure they have the right to complain about it. But their complaints are diminished, imo. This is particularly true for local elections/issues I think. It comes off as complaining for the sake of complaining... because if they actually cared, they’d have exercised their right to vote.

Oh, I think people have the right to complain about government/politics whether they vote or not.

But if the fact that they don't vote comes up in the conversation, they have no right to be protected from scorn.

No I dont agree with that statement.

Are you a US citizen? Then you have every right to complain.

Do you pay taxes? Then you have every right to complain.

I think the last 2 elections have demonstrated something. The 2 major parties absolutely control who you vote for and what your choices are. I can understand someone feeling as though their vote doesn't matter. I did a write in for 2016 and 2020. Why, because I didn't accept the crap choices that the 2 major parties gave me.

I actually think if you vote, you have no right to complain.

If you accept the rules and play the game .... that's on you.

It all depends if you accepted the lousy choices given by the 2 major parties. I am no partner to this train wreck.

I pay taxes, a lot of taxes. I don't have to vote for dumb or dumber either.

I agree with newtovenice.

I also don't think we should vote. We as Americans need to hold our politicians accountable up to and including the stretching of necks.

Personally I think this claim has merit as far as a certain class of people is concerned ...

More specifically those who incessantly complain about politics , yet at the same time take no part in the political process and/or make no attempt whatsoever to help bring about the change they supposedly wish to see ...

Basically the " sit on the sidelines while bellyaching about the players " type crowd ...

On the other hand it goes without saying that bringing about change can/more often than not is a very frustrating process , particularly for those of us whose ( as others have already mentioned ) views make it unable for them to support either of the two mega parties .

Of course I personally try to avoid complaining as much as possible , since I've never considered it a worthwhile endeavor , yet it sadly seems like an ever daunting task these days .

The first amendment guarantees your right to grumble, regardless of whether or not you vote.
