I don't think anything of it yet. One thing I would support is if they did put in place a moratorium on SCOTUS appointments within X months of an election. To be honest, this mostly has to do with Democrats getting burned twice on that.

The other problem, that I don't know if it something that can be resolved, but nominating a SCOTUS was a the privilege of the President and Senators respected that privilege - the candidate was judged on their qualifications, not their politics. Many SCOTUS appointments throughout history were near unanimous. Not all, but many were 90-9, 85-11, margins like that.

There were a few that were 65-35 or so, but most conformed to near unanimous until Clarence Thomas. The interesting thing with Clarence Thomas wasn't that he was confirmed 52-48. It was that 11 Democrats voted to confirm him and 2 Republicans voted to reject him. It wasn't what we usually see these days, which is mostly a party-line vote based on the president's party.

After that, we were back to 75+ votes to confirm a justice.

Alito was "close" at 58-42, but even in that case, we had 4 Democrats vote to confirm the Republican-appointed justice and 2 Republicans to reject.

Since then, it has mostly been a party-line vote for justices. All Democrats voted for Sotomayor, one voted against Kagan with very few Republicans supporting.

And that continued into the three Trump-nominated justices. All of those were pretty much party-line votes.

I don't know if any reform could change that. What used to be the president's privilege to nominate and the Senate's right to validate if they were fit for the office has simply turned into politics.
