Nice job speculators. The recent drive up in crude prices past $126 per barrel is already translating to higher prices at the pump pushing the price per gallon to $4 per gallon throughout my city of Bristol, CT yesterday.

Decreased supplies of home heating oil and diesel over the winter necessitate increased production for summer at a time when unleaded is usually produced in larger numbers at the refineries.

Speculators had a field day with this info moving the price of crude a recent low of approximately $112 per barrel to the current price of $126.

It was reported yesterday that the US has a good supply of heating oil and diesel and is exporting the product to Europe where supplies are tighter which will translate to rising prices here in the near future.

When will we wake up? Alternative energy is needed now. Contrary to what officials may be stating the prices are impacting the average American and will translate into inflationary wage pressures as workers start to vocalize that their wages are not able to cover the rapid increases in energy, food, and higher municipal taxes resulting from increased operating expenses of municipal buildings, equipment, and supplies.

Official rate of inflation, CPI, reported at an annualized level of 2 to 2.5% over the past year. What a farce. Crude has increased over 100% per barrel since last May from an average price of approximately $60 per barrel to over $120. Since 9/11 crude is 400% of the cost of what it was at the pre-9/11 price per barrel of approximately $25 to $30 per barrel.

Food has followed a similar path more than doubling in the past 3 years (my personal data tracked) while the ERS/USDA Briefing Reports claim numbers like 4% for the past year and make statements that indicate that food costs continue to represent smaller percentages of Americans' disposable income as if everyone is getting along just peachy with the higher energy and food costs.

We have come to a point where data is no longer used for empirical analysis but is increasingly misused as a marketing tool to fool the vast majority by utilizing theoretical data that supports the positions of the people presenting the data.

Enough is enough. Time for our leaders to "get off the dime" and work toward developing an energy policy that realistically addresses short-term problems while promoting the development of long-term solutions.

It has been over $4 here in Stamford for weeks already.

I think the media has much to do with everything. Thanks CNN, FOX and MSNBC.

Finally some one who "gets it". At least there are 2 of us in this world.

$3.95.9 where I live in Illinois. I am a college student who commutes to school and works full time. It is expensive.

I hope you have some sort of engineering background to make such a statement. Deal with the prices and quit complaining, we engineers are busting our asses to save the world while you play armchair politics.

It must be so nice to be so wealthy. Would you tell us about it?

Really man, never forget that there are so many other of your fellow human beings who have less money then you. Dont be so fat headed. All your money makes no difference in the end. You will still be 6' under with the rest of us.

The only difference is you will be remembered as a rich snob, while others less fortunate will be remembered as a nice wonderful caring person who always thought about others.

I am really confused on how you think I am rich? I am still in school, I have loans up to my eyeballs, I am white so I get very little handouts but I am determined to do what I have to do. Really how did you come up with such a stupid assumption?????

That was a REALLY stupid assumption man....

Call me crazy but I didn't interpret his statement like that at all. Sounds to me like JTraik simply stated that engineers are and have been working their tails off trying to come up with alternatives to conventional fuels.
