OP, why limit to just "Income"
Tax on Income? Any income? What about trade, non cash exchange?
So people came up on Consumption Tax; What type of consumption?
So other people think User Tax; I am all for toll roads and sewer taxes and education and police protection etc.

The purpose of taxes is to generate revenue to run the government. The amount of income or wealth one has amassed should have no bearing on the amount of taxes paid. How much discretionary money you have left over after paying taxes has precisely nothing to do with it. Let me repeat what I said in an earlier post. If you put your home up for sale, would you adjust the sale price based on the income of potential buyers? Of course not. So why should the price of access to government services vary based on income?

How do you get them to make those changes?

There needs to be an audit conducted every fiscal year that determines how much the Federal Government spent overall, across all agencies.
How do you get them to run this audit?

(see the problem?)

Fair enough.

I guess it would require wholesale amendments to the Constitution that make taxation optional and privatizing large parts of the government. Or a second coming of Reagan or Thatcher. Government fails to meet stated targets, people no longer have to pay taxes.

This is what I always said about the war in Iraq. If Bush had said "we need to invade Iraq, and it's going to cost every person in the US $4000", support for the war would have evaporated pretty quickly.

I'm OK with this. You could probably even reduce it to 12.5% if you eliminate ALL deductions.

Correction. Taxation is armed robbery.

Income tax is a new form of slavery.
