I don’t want America to come to this. A man was killed in Canada simply because he was walking down the street with a rifle near a school. The article didn’t mention him threatening anyone or pointing his weapon at anyone. Evidently, you can’t open carry in Canada. If you read the comments, they want America to be like this. Shoot first and ask questions later. He wasn’t attempting to go into the school. Everyone is cheering because of what could have happened. However, there’s no report of the guy going in the school or threatening anyone.

Having a gun in Canada is an automatic death sentence?

The article nowhere mentions that it was an “assault rifle” yet people are adding to the story. He wasn’t even try to gain entry. The article states he was 130 meters away from the school just walking by. This is the America some people want.

A man shot dead by police after reports of a person with a rifle forced several schools into lockdown in Toronto Thursday in fact had a pellet gun, Ontario's police watchdog says.

The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) also says the man was 27.

Toronto Police Chief James Ramer said officers were called to the Port Union area of Scarborough around 1 p.m. for reports of a person with a gun.

According to police, multiple residents called 9-1-1 with reports of a man in his late teens or early 20s with a rifle. Callers described him as wearing a white ball hat and a three-quarter length coat.

At a news conference late Thursday afternoon, Ramer said officers were "confronted" by the man, who he confirmed was dead. Ramer declined to provide further details, citing the SIU's investigation.

Well, that would be one way to prevent school shootings...

Good. No gun carry should be allowed within 600 meters of a school. That would protect children and parents outside of the building from attack by a gun nut with a grudge. I have no problem with wasting anyone who can't follow this simple rule.

My house is 50 yards from an elementary school. If I so happen to walk outside with my rifle, the Canadian police and shoot me dead and make it seem like I was attempting to do a mass shooting.

Even if it only looks like a real gun?

No exceptions?

If there is no way to tell. We must err on the side of our children's lives. I mean US cops shoot people every day of the year who are carrying replica guns. If one is stupid enough to walk down the street in front of an elementary school carrying a real or a fake gun, then they deserve to be shot.

600 meters? So in cities where neighborhoods are built around schools, no one can have a gun? That’s almost 1/2 mile.
