US Congress created The Naming Commission in 2021 in order to rename military assets that have names associated with the Confederacy & is mandated by Section 370 of the US National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2021 (NDAA), enacted on January 1, 2021. This Act requires "remove all names, symbols, displays, monuments, and paraphernalia that honor or commemorate the Confederate States of America or any person who served voluntarily with the Confederate States of America from all assets of the Department of Defense” within 3 years of enactment.
Fort Benning renamed as Fort Moore.
Fort Bragg renamed as Fort Liberty.
Fort Gordon renamed as Fort Eisenhower.
Fort A.P. renamed as Fort Walker.
Fort Hood renamed as Fort Cavazos.
Fort Lee renamed as Fort Gregg-Adams.
Fort Pickett renamed as Fort Barfoot.
Fort Rucker renamed as Fort Novosel.
Fort Polk renamed as Fort Johnson.
