Exclusive-Former Republicans and Democrats form new third U.S. political party

Dozens of former Republican and Democratic officials announced on Wednesday a new national political third party to appeal to millions of voters they say are dismayed with what they see as America’s dysfunctional two-party system.

The new party, called Forward and whose creation was first reported by Reuters, will initially be co-chaired by former Democratic presidential candidate Andrew Yang and Christine Todd Whitman, the former Republican governor of New Jersey. They hope the party will become a viable alternative to the Republican and Democratic parties that dominate U.S. politics, founding members told Reuters.

…
The new party is being formed by a merger of three political groups that have emerged in recent years as a reaction to America’s increasingly polarized and gridlocked political system.

…
The merger involves the Renew America Movement, formed in 2021 by dozens of former officials in the Republican administrations of Ronald Reagan, George H.W. Bush, George W. Bush and Donald Trump; the Forward Party, founded by Yang, who left the Democratic Party in 2021 and became an independent; and the Serve America Movement, a group of Democrats, Republicans and independents whose executive director is former Republican congressman David Jolly.

Good that they are doing what they believe is the best thing to do. We will see what they have to offer in the way of solutions and managing affairs. On the surface – seems like a centrist/moderate group with no policy positions at this point.

So the members of this new party would be called Forwarders?

They need a better name.

1. I love some of the concept.

2. The democrats will call them racist and mysoginist nazis.

3. The republicans will call them communists trying to destroy American values.

Yeah, agreed it's a lame name. Good idea otherwise.

Yup, just look how many people today still fall for that term "progressive".

Well, technically it did change for the worse... And America is quite a bit more radicalized... And Americans are madder and more heavily armed than ever, thanks to America's best gun salesmen, the "ObidenBama" dynasty...

It's almost as if, the more the democrat party tries to help, the bigger the mess becomes... My only wish is that another party will replace them. A 3rd party is not enough, and may actually just be a tool to help democrats keep people they don't like out. An easily manipulated 3rd party would not be something to celebrate.

Yang seems to think Elon Musk is a good fit for the party but he doesn't say in what capacity. I personally wouldn't want Musk to run for office but I think he would have some great input on policy decisions.

Third parties can swing elections to one side or the other, it will be interesting who the Forward party nominates for the '24 presidential election.
