Mike Pence left his morals behind when he chose to be Donald Trump's vice president, maybe Pence told the TRUTH today.
Up to now he sure has been afraid to tell the whole truth, hasn't he? Refusing to talk to the fact-finding Jan 6 committee and now only appearing before the federal Jan 6 grand jury after fighting the subpoenaed demands for his testimony. Still, he was able to discuss events in his book “So Help Me God,”
I agree with your opinion of pathetic Pence and his questionable self-proclaimed moral superiority. He has spent years pitifully pledging his allegiance to amoral Trump over allegiance to America. And now has been refusing to uphold his duty as an American to testify about serious crimes committed against the American people. Some time ago, this former Vice President of the United States of America, declared “I am a Christian, a conservative and a Republican, in that order”. Note that he never claimed to be an American.
He is a sad, narrow, myopic man who has a focal point of history thrust into his hands and to date has been dropping it because he lacks the spine to hold it. Maybe he found it while under oath yesterday??? For the sake of our nation's foundational principles, our Rule of Law, American democracy and we the people, I truly hope that is the case.

IMO Pence wanted to testify but he wanted maximum political cover as well. This way he gets to damage Trump and claim, truthfully, that he was forced to do it.

That is my take too. Once the DC Appeals Court cleared the way, Mr. Pence was in front of that Federal grand jury within 24 hours (or, before Mr. Trump could file for an emergency stay).
Reports are that Mr. Pence spent five to seven hours with the grand jury.
As to Mr. Pence pleading the Fifth Amendment: we have no idea.
For those that say that Mr. Pence had no need to plea the Fifth because he is not facing criminal charges: one reason you plea the Fifth is to not reveal information that might result in criminal charges.
Mr. Pence may have used the Fifth on occasion during his time in front of the grand jury. One reason the session may have lasted so long: a grand jury has a presiding judge, or, rather, a judge that is within the building that is ready to immediately consider questions of law.
For instance, in response to a question, Mr. Pence may have taken the Fifth. The prosecutor may have objected, saying that the question did not involve an issue that involved Mr. Pence in potential criminal liability. They then stop the testimony, and submit the question to the judge, asking for an immediate ruling on whether Mr. Pence should be compelled to answer.
That is why such proceedings may be dragged out. Not because the prosecutor has a thousand questions, but because they have to continually submit questions to the judge for a ruling.

That is the bottom line. When Trump goes to prison Pence wants to inherit his base. He wouldn't have a chance with them if he volunteered to testify.
