Did Ramaswamy actually say these things? And did he mean them the way they're being presented here? Or is this some far-left exaggeration designed to smear Ramaswamy and fool people into believing he actually believes this stuff?

Vivek Ramaswamy ... running as an “America First” crusader isn’t shying away from controversy in the Republican field, especially when it comes to foreign policy. The candidate has suggested he would allow China to invade Taiwan, as long as the United States has its own independent supply of semiconductors by 2028.

And he proposed an appeasement plan for Vladimir Putin that would cede parts of the Donbas region to Russia and prevent Ukraine from joining NATO. And now, ahead of the Wednesday debate, Ramaswamy has touched on an even bigger third rail in conservative American politics: proposing an eventual end to military aid to Israel.

“If we’re successful, the true mark of success for the US, and for Israel, will be to get to a 2028 where Israel is so strongly standing on its own two feet, integrated into the economic and security infrastructure of the rest of the Middle East, that it will not require and be dependent on that same level of historical aid or commitment from the US,” Ramaswamy told the Washington Free Beacon on Saturday.

Yes, he’s big on appeasing bullies apparently as he wants to give Putin Ukrainian territory as well. As if either is ours to give or appeasing bullies ever worked.

So the OP cannot process why the US will defend countries that have things that we want...and not give two figs if a country is being invaded etc. where we really have no interest.

Seems like Ramaswamy is keeping it pretty real and the OP can't process that reality or is just looking for a way to grind someone they don't like politically.

P.S. I heard that Ramaswamy also believes in gravity and that the earth is round....better get right on that OP.

Well, Taiwain is really just China as far as the US is concerned. As long as we are dependent upon China for semiconductors, the distinction of it being an autonomous part of China is important. Otherwise it's like Hong Kong. Like Trump said, Hong Kong is no longer autonomous but we're not invading it just because mainland China took it over directly.

The guy has no idea how much 'politicking' is involved in American politics. Balancing the interests of business, civil society.
Heck, as the President, countries even. If he was as smart as he bills himself, he wouldn't have SAID that, even if he believes it.

There is a sizable faction of Taiwanese who like mainland China and want to work more closely with them. Obviously, the majority favors independence, though.

But I’m not convinced that the Taiwanese are willing to die to save their independence. They might just begrudgingly accept it like Hong Kong did.

I’m also not convinced Japan and our other allies would be willing to support the war effort.

So based on all that, Vivek is right not to commit US troops until all factors are fully known.

Regardless of all of that, we need all our manufacturing brought home. We need to be completely self sufficient if the need arises.

ah you and many others seem to think it IS our territory. Since so many want us to spend our National Resources and Wealth defending those places....News Flash it is not our job to defend the World against Bullies, which might be difficult indeed since we ARE the biggest Bully on the Planet. Let's see Russia attacks Ukraine. In the last 20 years we have directly attacked or supported Wars in Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria, Libya, Yemen and I am sure other places around the World that i cannot think of at the moment. . hmm we seem to be the Warmongers and Bullies here. Now Putin is a Bully and a Warmonger as well but we are no better so have no moral ground to stand on. And as i have said many times on these forums we HAVE NO defensive treaties with Ukraine, non, nada, nyet. AND FYI we have none with Taiwan either....
