Were American War Crimes Committed in Vietnam, and Are They Now Being Committed in Iraq?
The liberally biased media will be more than happy to report any war crimes involving American soldiers just to make our military and our country look bad.

Just the opposite. The media has been content to parrot the president and pentagon falsehoods for the past 8 years... so if you equate 'liberal' press with 'truth-telling' press, which you seem to be doing, then no, the press is not 'liberal' at all.
According to soldiers who fought there, My Lai was a 'routine' occurrance. The only reason that the truth about My Lai came out was because of a single courageous jounalist, Seymour Hersh, who broke the story about the massacre and its cover-up.
Only on rare occasion will a soldier like Hugh Thompson emerge to follow his conscience.
"Instead of turning away, or worse, taking part in the killing, Mr. Thompson and the men with him that day (Lawrence Colburn and Glenn Andreotta) forced the end of the massacre by turning their weapons on the US soldiers commiting the atrocity.
Over 500 men, women and children were killed that day and there would have been more if not for this brave act.
Mr. Thompson's good deed did not go unpunished. Ostracized by his peers for turning in his fellow soldiers, he suffered from depression... but from what I have read... never regret. It was not until 1998 that the US government grudgingly, after much lobbying, awarded him and his two collegues the "Soldier's Medal".
War is such an horrific experience that normal constraints on behavior are destroyed. All wars for all time have had atrocities and always will. That is the nature of WAR.
Sorry but the whole US=Nazi Germany just doesn't grab me. The US has serious issues, but Nazi Germany is on a whole other level.
Good point. And when we went into Nazi Germany there was little concern with colateral damage(unlike Vietnam and later wars). If you were a Nazi hold out after the end of the war or were suspected of being there was no press of wikileaks to cry on your behalf.

Yeah, but its hard to cry "defense" when you are agressing on the property of others.
An old thread brought back to life.
Our military is made up of the average citizen with the average mix basically. Look at any large city and you have criminals. People that inspite of laws, still commit crime.
Now put them in the mix with war where killing is a part of the game. Add to this rules of engagement that are often nearly impossible to follow if one wants to stay alive to tell the story.
Humans have leaders, followers and loners.
In any group you will find an alpha. We would hope that the alpha is always honest and has honor. As we see in DC , police forces across our land this is not always the case.
The followers will follow the leader if the leader is bad you have war crimes. The loners will stand back and observe in disgust and possibly report it, possibly try to stop it.
Look no further than our schools. How does the 95 pound weakling get his butt kicked everyday without relief? But yet it happens. Surrounded by an adult teaching staff, good kids and yet it happens.
This is exactly why we should be very very selective about going to war and if we intend to go to war, then go to win it.
