I don't really care. The concept is taking a lot of us some getting used to. But, for me, I still think about 9-11 and that makes certain issues like this one less of a big deal.
I think marriage should be relegated to religon and some sort of lawful partnerships, not based on sexual conduct, be allowed for adults who choose to live in a single household. For example, two sisters who choose to live together should not be penalized paying single rates on the tax. Further, if children are part of any household, that household should be able to declare them as dependents, so grandparents, guardians, etc could claim them. This would solve the issues, marriage is a religous institution that is supported by civil law, let's just seperate the two.
I find the concept of same sex marriages silly, but I dont think its a crime, just silly.
No one is suggesting it be criminalized. LOL.
Just legally recognized, and I don't think it's a bit silly when my partner could be left with a huge fight with my family if I died, REGARDLESS of what I put in my will, for things that would be much harder to challenge in court if we were legally married.
I don't think it's silly at all when you understand that neither of us would have any legal right to take time off to care for the other (i.e. invoking the FMLA), should one of us become seriously ill. Nor do we even have any protection against being barred from visiting one another in the hospital.
