nope sorry, don't have any kids, and don't have a dog. I helped raise a kid, but it wasn't my kid, so I did not spank her or anything.

but how can you equate this story to a child getting a spanking maybe once, twice or three times in their lives?

I cannot believe how you distort a spanking into something like this...

Yes, that's the extreme but we daily read cases of horror where children are abused. I think any example of someone hitting a kid is frustration with the kid rather than dealing with the problem. When both parents are working full-time they don't have the time to enjoy the kids & get frustrated w/ their children's needs. Some parents react by hitting their children while other parents figure out a way to find more time for the family. Which is better?

It depends entirely on the effect you intend to have.

Humans and dogs aren't nearly as different as people's pride allows them to believe. It's true that you can have a very obedient dog with choke chains, beatings, etc. But, and it's a big but, that dog will turn on you when the chips are down and it will not make a move to save you from drowning (play Lassie theme music here) while a dog that is trained with praise and non-physical punishment will be easily as well trained and a far more well adjusted animal. This is the animal that will fight a grizzly bear to protect it's owner instead of abandoning it's family as soon as the odds are against it.

If the effect is to create something that is violent, unpredictable, and disloyal, then hitting will work just fine.

Did you notice where the states are located that allow spanking BTW? You often are the voice of ignorance. Aren’t you better than that?

I didn't generalize. I called it a tactic.
