AKA - money. They hate the USA but adore the money and government handouts.
What money and handouts are you talking about specifically? If they're getting money, why would they need handouts.
Besides, our "handouts" are far from generous. Like another poster above me said, there are lots of countries that do the generous handouts thing that make our handouts look like a joke. So why choose to come here if that's what you're looking for?
It's pretty obvious that many of you have never traveled abroad.
Just wondering if you know what it takes to move to another country. It's not like the US, where you just sneak across the border. Other counties have RULES in place and if you don't meet the criteria, you are SOL.
Coming from someone who HAS researched this and would love to leave, but don't meet the criteria.

That's really only because the U.S. is so vast. It's much easier for a nation the size of Germany or Switzerland to control it's borders.
Personally, i'd do almost anything to live in Europe again.

Actually EU countries have it pretty good these days. Since Schengen they have all but ceased to control their borders with other EU countries. They mostly concentrate their efforts on the Eastern and Southern borders of Europe as a whole, which is relatively easy because Europe is surrounded by water except for the Eastern border.

Yea, about the only difficulty i ever had crossing Euro borders was the Swiss border cuz they want you to buy that Autobahn pass. Austria used to inquire about having international insurance. I used to just buy it before leaving. Driving from Italy into Croatia could be a pain in the butt, but i've heard that it's gotten a bit easier.
Still though, it's a bit harder to find work in Europe without the proper papers because they frown on hiring illegal aliens and because just about every country issues indentity documents that you're supposed to carry with you.

Well, let's be honest: Most wouldn't want to live like illegals, either. It's hard to own a home or build a nest egg or climb the ladder at all if you have to stay under the radar.

....and staying under the radar in Europe is extremely difficult.
Some people settle for living like illegals in Europe if they come from countries that are really bad. Who'd want to go back to Albania, Bulgaria, or Ethiopia?

That, too. Simple stuff - most companies won't cut you a physical paycheck, for instance, they expect you to have a bank account for direct transfer. Banks will ask for address information and do a credit check. Car? Go get insurance. The insurance guy will want to see your driver's license. The driver's licenses are issued by the police, and they'll want to know your residence status. It's easy if you're legal, just check the boxes and move on. The machinery actually works. It's very hard if you're not. And at least in Northern Europe, there's no tradition for bribes to move things along, quite the contrary. (Try to slip a German police officer a 100-Euro bill to help your case, and chances are you'll end up in handcuffs.)
Sure, you can do black/grey market cash jobs and put your money in the mattress, but eventually, you'll want to buy that house or car or get a job with a desk.
Not elitist at all...simply a comment on human nature. All of us, I think, want to at least FEEL like we're doing something tangible...doing 'our part' if you will. A person who grows food....or who builds houses....or as you say, who is a doctor....can obviously see that his JOB is benefitting his fellow man. He can get a direct sense of 'helping others' simply by showing up for work.
But what about a casino Blackjack dealer? Or a clerk in a Blockbuster video store? Or a dog groomer, or a 'golf pro', or a yacht broker? What do these jobs "do" as far as providing vital services? The answer of course, is that they don't..ALL of these jobs are things we could easily 'do without',....and increasingly, all of us in this society will be doing more and more jobs which are not really 'vital' at all...and thus we'll have to find that type of satisfaction elsewhere...if we CAN.
The 'human animal' doesn't change. WE have the same basic psychological needs as we did 1000 years ago. We want to accomplish something, and we want to do good for others. Increasingly, it's getting harder and harder to 'see' this in our lives....that's really my point.
lol, like my neighbors kid whos getting his Masters in "turf management"...I kid not...he wants to be a golf pro....
Which is fine but contributes nothing, which is more and more common for college grads these days, in America, due to outsourcing.
Not sure what the remedy is economically, but individually each person to be self-actualized needs to find something they like to do, are good at, and which they can survive on without leeching off others. Not an easy prospect....
