Bah! I didn't realize there was another thread about this - sorry!

I don't know if the bailout plan was decent or not - um, that's above my pay grade - I'm no economist.

But I think that nobody's ever going to agree and it's a no-win situation that has been hijacked by politics at every level, and it disgusts me.

Did your rep vote no? Mine voted for it. Here's the list:

We are going to suffer the negative consequences of years of overspending regardless of the bailout.

This bailout is unnecessary, we already have the tools for an orderly unwinding of insolvent banks, we have to accept that, with local exceptions, only three or four very large banks will survive, necessary to compete in the global economy.

This bailout is to reward the losers in that process, to reward the loser friends of komrades Bush, Paulson, Pelosi, Dodd, Frank et al (do your research).

We will have a recession either way, but they threaten to block up the day-to-day payments system.

the people, at this point, don't care how it got done or what politics were involved, just that we had our moment in the sun where we were listened to! i hope people are thanking the representativves who voted their way on this issue. i sure am!

I agree that we enjoyed a moment in the sun.

I'm afraid, though, that the moment will fade quickly, they are probably cooking up a slightly altered version of the bailout and will hand out enough pork to get it passed.

I think only a sustained effort at pressuring the congressmen in each district will stave it off.

And maybe a few senators will at least have the guts to attempt a filibuster, forcing them at least to vote it down.
