Cheney plane lands in Singapore after minor problem

SINGAPORE (Reuters) - U.S. Vice President Dick Cheney's plane, which encountered a mechanical problem after leaving Australia to return to the United States, landed safely in Singapore on Sunday.

"This was the pre-planned, scheduled fuel stop," said Cheney's spokeswoman Lea Anne McBride. "We were not diverted," she added, following a comment by Australia's Prime Minister John Howard that Cheney's plane had been diverted to Singapore because of the mechanical problem.

Yeah. I'll bet this was the plan. Seems like he is gearing up to escape before being indicted for leaking Valerie Plame's name...

Great plan. Just have your plane disappear before the indictment comes out.

Leak what? She was not an undercover agent! Get over it folks. How many people think it was a major national security breach? As others have said we have more important things.

She was covert. That came out somewhat in the Scooter Libby trial.

If you paid attention during Scooter's trial -- and read the NYT and NY Sun stories after the trial ended -- what you would have found was this:

The White House and the CIA disagreed on what could be declassified. Without telling the CIA, the White House (Dick & Scooter) decided to declassify things that affected the CIA (Valerie Plames name for the most part -- to get even with Joe Wilson). Later, after they had already exposed her, they found out from a CIA briefer that this was not a good idea because it exposed her entire network -- anyone she had ever done business with as a covert agent -- and this was what enraged the people at the CIA. The CIA had no chance to warn these people because this was an unauthorized declassifiication.

After Dick & Scooter found this out, they tried to hide that they were responsible.

So....

I think the VP is in hot water.

How many covert agents were killed because of this leak? Any captured? I havent heard of any. What covert job was she doing? If the agents felt compromised, tell them to go fishing. As if they havent left people to die. The CIA is hardly the moral , by the book organization. What political BS!

The CIA doesn't plan to write a report on this until after all the trials are over. There is still a sealed indictment from the grand jury and I'm betting, from what we have heard so far, that it has Dick Cheney's name on it.

Compromised agents would have found out at the same time we heard her name. That was the problem with declassifying her name. The CIA wasn't notified in advance to warn people. In fact, the CIA advised against declassifying anything so this was done deliberately after the CIA said NO.

We never hear about agents who are killed -- or their contacts who are killed. Didn't you know that? They are all secret. That's why we never hear. I understand the CIA building in Washington has a memorial wall for all of them without containing their names.

I found this on the internet on the CIA website:

"On the north wall of the Original Headquarters Building lobby, to the right as you enter, is a memorial wall that was commissioned by the CIA Fine Arts Commission in May 1973 and sculpted by Harold Vogel in July 1974. With the simple inscription "IN HONOR OF THOSE MEMBERS OF THE CENTRAL INTELLIGENCE AGENCY WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES IN THE SERVICE OF THEIR COUNTRY," this wall of 83 stars stands as a silent, simple memorial to those CIA officers who made the ultimate sacrifice. The glass-encased Book of Honor below the stars lists the 48 names of officers which can be revealed; while the names of the remaining 35 officers must remain secret, even in death. Framed by the American and the Central Intelligence Agency flags, this memorial immortalizes these anonymous few who served and sacrificed in silence. "

Prior to Valerie Plame, the plaque had under 75 stars -- so who knows if any of those additional stars might be the result of this? It's possible though we won't know until later. (CNN did a story on the CIA and mentioned the wall earlier, when it had under 75 stars.)

If people actually died because of a VP needing to get even with Joe Wilson, I expect you to be appropriately upset.

Here's a link to a 1997 Washington Post story on the CIA wall. In 1997, there were 70 stars. We now have 83 stars.

Tell me again how you think this didn't affect anyone and no one was hurt...

In other words, if someone in a Democratic administration takes home some FBI files, the world is coming to an end, but if it's a Republican administration, ho hum, so what, no harm done?

Bullshiviki.

so it seems. We are in a democracy, yet the "shut up suck it up" and "what goes on in the white house stays in the white house" says Laura Bush with her little smirk.

They better start medicating people with their "soma now", as Aldous Huxley has recommended. The public aint buying the Kool-aid anymore.
