How would you feel about a non Christian/Catholic president of America?

Personally, I would not mind it and *may* actually prefer someone who is non Christian or Catholic. I am not even sure if we have ever elected a president who was not Christian or Catholic.

The only religion I *might* not like the president to be is Islam. It is not that I do not like this religion..it is simply because I do not feel Americans are ready for an Islamic president with this war and situations.

However, I would not mind an Atheist, Agnostic, Buddhist, Hindu..any other religion being in office.

How about you?

I'd LOVE to see someone who isn't a Christian in office. An Atheist would be best, but a Buddhist, Jainist or Baha'i would be nice too. I have no problem with a Muslim or Jew being in office, but I do have problems with anyone who is a devout anything being president. And certainly no more evangelical or born-agains!

Four Presidents (Lincoln, A Johnson, Grant, and Hayes) have had no religious affiliation. Twelve more have been episcopalians, which is almost the same thing... :-)

Weird, that's exactly what I was thinking.

I'm not sure why that's lumped in there in the OP.

It's way past time for an atheist president. Although there are strong indications that we've already had one or more. They just have to keep their lack of faith a closely held secret.

Yeah, maybe then we could have an Office of Reason-Based Assistance. What a concept...
