Just want to get a pulse on how people on this forum feel.

Do you think that we are going too far in protecting Americans from another 9/11, another set of planes being hijacked, the planes being flown into high damage targets, with the resultant loss of death...

Or is it more important that we focus on the 'civil rights' of Muslim Americans - and I put 'civil rights' in quotes because investigating someone for a potential security threat is not in my mind a violation of anyone's civil rights...

What do folks think??

It defies logic that they come to states because they have no rights in their own countries and then want to blow the place up for having those rights...

My view is definitely NOT "pc". A security threat far outweighs the possibility of offending anyone's "civil rights".

What is more important, buying more fire trucks or not starting fires in the first place?

Credible threats should be taken seriously... off-the-hand remarks have no place in "seriousness"... Taking "anything" as terrorism is retarded... everyone got a brain... USE IT... let's see, there is a 0.0000000000001 percent chance of him being a terrorist because he is a muslim... let's play it safe? Use a brain or even half of one...

Good question.....and I don't know what the answer is. As long as Muslims are an "identifiable group"..(which they are, just like any religion, group, or organization)....and until 'terrorism' abates, and until the Muslim religion becomes more familiar in American society...then this problem will continue to exist.....partly because of the often-cited "ignorance" of the American public....and partly because, for some reason, the Muslim community as a whole has done an extraordinarily poor job of disassociating itself from the 'screwballs' in its midst..(at least, in the eyes of the Western public).

We can all cite examples of non-Muslims 'overreacting' to this situation, (as in this week's "airline passenger" flap)....but we can also cite studies where, for example, large numbers of Muslims when polled, admit to "sympathizing" with the terrorists, "understanding" their motives, etc....and let's not forget the spectacle of hundreds of British-born Muslim young people a few years ago, predicting the "end of Britain", and calling for "death to those who would insult Islam"....and doing so right 'out in the open', in the streets of London. It's hard, as a Westerner, to sympathize with this. To Western eyes, it looks like an example of hostile, ungrateful "guests" turning against their "hosts"..those who've provided their new home. Western ignorance? Perhaps.....but that's how it appears, in any event. Hard to understand, (for a Westerner) how to see the 'friendly' aspect of death threats and calls for "blood in the streets". To Westerners, this sounds distinctly UNFRIENDLY. Yet when it happens, the Muslim community apparently 'approves'..or at least remains silent.

Until Westerners are able to understand this seeming conflict (the fact that Muslims want to be "part" of the West, while at the same time calling for the "death" of the West), then those who LIVE in the West will continue having problems understanding just how far to 'trust' these folks. That will ONLY happen (if it ever does) when Muslims have more of a 'history' in the West.

Um, that would mean there were 10 trillion (short scale) Muslims in the world, of which only 1 was a terrorist, given equal probability of a terrorist and a non-terrorist Muslim flighting in the United States.

Without a doubt, protecting from terrorism. I could care less about offending them.

The muslims seem to be hypersensitive regarding their religion. I think this country and others go out of the way to not offend them - too much in my opinion.

Unless and until they show the same kind of courtesy and tolerance for other religions and opinions, I say "screw them".

Why can't we do both?

If as a Christian I was driving near an abortion clinic and got pulled over for a traffic violation and just happened to have my bible and a few things church related on the seat, how much sense would it make for me to be yanked out of my car, have my car towed, kept in custody and questioned heavily just because some nearby clinic had received threats?

I am tired of being pigeonholed into a mindset that says we must hand over civil liberties to our governments control or not be safe. That is how govt takes away our freedoms a little at a time and then one day we wonder why we don't have our freedom anymore.

Profiling, imho, is a necessity and has been politicized by the Left as somehow violating somebodys rights.

We know that grandma is not a threat, but to be "fair" we must pull her out of the line for inspection. Insane and ridiculous.
