It takes more than a difference in religious belief for the stoning and sawing off heads to begin. Like, say, a war for instance.

That's their justice system. So what? I assumed you were talking about them cutting our heads off.

One of the best things I've heard on this subject came right after we went into Iraq. One of the networks was interviewing the Dean of Theology at St. Louis University. He was a young Catholic priest, but very sharp.

He said, "You know, we (the Catholics) once had the same kinds of practices based on the same Bible we read today. Civilization advanced and so did we, so we no longer do those kinds of things. We still practice our religion but we do it differently and we interpret Scripture differently. The Moslem religion needs to do the same thing, and quit living as if it were still the Middle Ages."

What he was saying was the problem isn't their religion per se, but the way they practice it. Much of the Koran is identical with the Bible. Many of the extreme traditions, like treating women as chattel are not actually part of the religion at all. They come from the same Canaanite culture that spawned the Hebew and Christian traditions. We see them as Moslem but in an earlier era the were those of our ancestors, Jew, Christain and others.

Their justice system is based on their religion; they cut our and others' heads off in the name of Allah

I agree with the Dean who spoke (young Catholic priests can be sharp too! ). I appreciate an orthodox viewpoint and understand reluctance to seculariize and modernize. I love the histories of the Greek and Russian Orthodox Churches (partly because they're real short, lol). Nevertheless the Muslims have modernized where it suits them and stayed in the Middle Ages where it suits them.

As it relates to the thread topic, it unnerves me that they are making this creepy, insulting "outreach" to the Western adrift while not addressing the elephant in the room: that they have no intention of changing themselves, that they fully intend to kill the infidel and make no bones about it so to speak.

As long as they keep it in their own countries, I couldn't care less if they do it in the name of the Great Pumpkin. We have enough barbarism in our own justice system to be trying to reform anyone else's.

That's the point of the thread. They're evangelizing here now. There's the open, sunny, jolly 1-800-WHY ISLAM and the pop singer guy, and there's this: Jihad Recruiting Effort May Explain Missing Somalis in Minneapolis Area

Female circumcision existed in Arabia before Islam. It is widely practiced in a number of non-Muslim majority countries, e.g. Central African Republic, Cote d'Ivoire. It is practically unknown in many overwhelmingly Muslim countries, e.g. Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya, etc. Try all you want, but linking female circumcision to Islam is simply a mark of an immature or disorganized brain.
You shouldn't be so insulting to muslims. To call their brains immature or disorganized, tsk tsk...

Because the truth is, FGM is practiced largley by muslims alone and whether the practioners know it or not, they believe they are fulfilling Islamic tenets.
