Ah, the Cuba Card. Lovely parting gifts are just down this hallway...second door on the right...

I am sorry, didn't know that I was playing a "card". This is a lovely nation with free education and healthcare and an economy almost completely controlled by a benevolent godvernment. It seems like a paradise that "progressive" Americans would readily embrace.

Well.....you did forget lack of ability.
But I do realize that in our present politically correct society we should not even suggest that some just 'ain't smart enough' to get furthur than they are.
They are smart enough, though, to know they can get more than they can earn with a liberal government.

You can make as much money as you want in this world. They're leveraging their money now because they EARNED it to begin with. Once you make money, it's very easy to use it to make more. Or you could whine and complain about it and see where that gets you in life.
Speaking as one who is well within the top 1% of income earners, I'll note that it isn't actually any easier to make more money when the government doesn't tax you on it. It was just as easy to use money to make money under Clinton and his tax regimes...you just handed a few extra cents over to the government at the end assuming you couldn't come up with any sort of offset. Bush has simply spent eight years padding the pockets of the wealthy at the expense of everyone else, and that has done serious damage to the country and its economy. It's about time we again had a government that kept other elements of the population in mind as well, and I very much look forward to seeing additional taxes on the wealthy paired with additional tax relief for the middle class et al. This sort of thing has become long overdue...

Canada and France are nations that I think have some good socialist programs.

You must be talking about Ireland right? That is a paradise you could take me up on, beam me up Scotty.

Well, you were. It's moving right up there with the Stalin-Mao-Pol Pot Card. When someone actually says that the US would be better governed under the system that Cuba uses, then there might be a point. When someone says something like recent tax cuts for the rich should be reversed, then not so much...

Well then, you shouldn't have very long to wait before one of them comes along and readily embraces it. But I should perhaps note that in my 2+ years at C-D, I've never seen it happen...

So, you are "wealthy" and you enjoy paying more taxes? Very interesting perspective! Have you ever thought about moving to Germany? The government there will be happy to take 50% of your income to "help" the less fortunate.

Lack of ability? Your reasoning is "I didn't get ahead in life because I'm an idiot"? That's a cop out.

They're smart enough to know that they'll be "given" a little more money by the liberals, but their opportunity to earn vastly more than that and become their own person will disappear.

They'll make the poor dependent on the government, which is just what socialist countries do. It helps to control the masses.
