I agree. I'm not on board with the whole zoo thing. Animals don't deserve to be captives, especially for their entire lives.

I think many people have a big misconception regarding zoos. The majority of zoos house animals that cannot be released into the wild for one reason or another. Either they are injured, were previously injured or were raised in captivity from a young age and simply could not easily be put back into their natural habitat. My best friend works closely with zoos and graduated from the Exotic Animal Training and Management program in Moorpark, CA and she has many years of experience with exotic and wild animals under her belt.

Yes, if an animal is kept under unsanitary conditions in quarters that are too small they will start occupying their time with ticks and behavioral problems. Most zoos offer enrichment programs where the animals are 'trained' to do simple tasks for rewards which keeps their minds active and gives them puzzles to solve.

Plus, due mostly to human activity many zoo animals are rare in the wild and are being bred to increase wild numbers. There are just too few animals in the wild to do it naturally, as habitat is being broken up by housing and poachers are rampant. A male and female may never actually find eachother due to this.

I'm not for keeping animals for gawking purposes or keeping them in really small cages or even keeping them if the 'owner/trainer' is not properly trained. But zoos have their purpose.

I don't blame any animal. The human is the worse animal to plague this earth yet.
